i just followed the steps and my phone was unlocked in a matters of minute!! i used my European sim card for the process so i have at the moment noway to tell if the phone will work on other networks. but, both sp lock and net work lock are deactivated and the phone still work on Fido network. thank you.

    cheers

sp lock is strictly service provider lock, as in foreign sim not being accepted into a phone. Network lock, will be in regards to a user being able to search and register onto a network that is not specified by the sim card. It is another way to limit phone portability. You can always run through the steps above again carefully, to unlock both of the locks. As long as the phone does what you need it to do then its all good.

curious... what is the difference between "network lock" and "sp lock"? i followed the instruction and got "sp lock deactivated" and then when i tried to get to the network locking section, it said "wrong password"

my phone has sp lock deactivated but network lock still activated. i can use another sim card with no problem... for any ideas?

OK boys and girls, while I'm not a frequent poster, I am though an avid phone entusiast that isnt afraid to bust a phone or two and keep trying **** out!

Here is a solution i found at mygsmindia com Keep reading further for my solution with the FIDO Phone which differs from this one:

    ---
Follow the following steps might help:
1.insert one working (the phone currently locked to) sim, enter
    *7465625*228#
    *7465625*28638#
turn off and turn on your phone, wait until you can see the reception bars.
2.turn off and insert one (Non-working sim) ,turn on it ,should show "wrong card" again.

    enter#7465625*228#
    3.off switch to working sim,enter
    *7465625*77*99999999*99999999#
    #7465625*77*99999999#
    4.off,insert non-working sim
    enter*7465625*638*00000000*00000000#
    enter#7465625*638*00000000#
    -----------

My solution - first step with your current fido sim card type in *#7465625#
You will get the Interrogate menu telling you what kind of locks are currently active or inactive.
What you should see is that both Network Lock and SP Lock are active, all the other ones are inactive. If for any reason you have an active Activa Lock you type in #7465625*228# otherwise completelly ignore this and move on to step 1 of my solution:
The most important part which stops everyone dead in their tracks is the SP lock which pops up when you put in a foreign sim and entering crap into it will only lead to trouble, thus step 1, remove SP LOCK!
    Step 1:
With you current working sim card type in:
    *7465625*77*99999999*99999999#
    #7465625*77*99999999#
after the second code you should get SP Lock deactivated
check to make sure by *#7465625#
IF things didnt work for you, try again this time make sure to enter the code correctly, there are eight(8) nines(9s) in that code, and keep in mind the * and # differences in the 2 codes. Also after the *77* you will get ----- instead of number, do not fear, you are entering a "secret" code!
Check again with the interrogate menu, if still SP lock Active, stop right there I cant help you, sorry no solution that I know of!
    Step 2:
once the SP lock is gone we have the freedom to put in the foreign sim card!
On this particular model, you will get a message saying wrong card. If youve been readin unlocking guides for samsung, this is the message we want to see!
    Enter first this code!
    *7465625*638*00000000*00000000#
Your phone will freeze and will not allow you to enter anything new, or press any buttons other than the off button.
    Step 3:
What i did, it may not be necessary but I was scared,
I removed the foreign sim card put my fido sim card to check if I ****ed the phone, everything was ok, I got the usual boot up, I did the *#7465625# saw that I still have the Network Lock active, and SP Lock inactive, so i turned it off and put in my foreign sim card again.

I turned it on, and it let through my foreign card, it no longer said Wrong card, and I was at the regular idle screen.
    Enter this code:
    #7465625*638*00000000#
You will get a message: Network Lock deactivated

Whola mofo's you got an unlocked quad-band 2 MP phone. Now the ****ty part, still do not know what to do with those Email and Inet buttons, and no ideas about the ringtone bull****.

A side note: Since the ringtones are only available for download from the Fido Boutik, i suspect this is borderline monopoly anti compettitive, since you have no choice of an online provider, thus limiting your choices in available music for ringtones to one provider with limited selection.
We should all collectivelly look into consumer protection and CRTC for filing a complaint, yada yada yada.
