Well, not to stick up for the carriers, especially in this day and age of bandwidth limits. Here in the US, we've not really had bandwidth limits. Right now, both my ISP and my cell provider (Time Warner/AT&T) both offer unlimited bandwidth, but at the same time, I'm not teathering my phone to my computer either. As a matter of fact, I use wi-fi whenever possible to stay off AT&T's network as much as possible, plus wi-fi is faster. Still, I consider it even though I don't have limitations. I would think that if you have a set data plan of 'X' number of bytes per month, than you should be pretty free to sue them however you want to. If you go over, you pay, that's it.

Because they don't want you to. They want you to buy a rocket stick and pay $30 a month for 500MB. When I already have a 6GB data plan on my iphone for $30. I've never came close to hitting 6GB but can chew throw 500MB pretty quick and would rather not pay for anther sub par service.

Tethering is not new. it was offered in the app store but was taken out because the carriers disliked it. It's been offered through many different apps on cydia.

Has anyone used it? Have you had any issues?

I am sure they will find out if you use it as modem. one of the ways for them to find out is by what browser you use and what applications and what services use your data connection. So why dont you call rogers and ask them for details on how to use it as modem

My plan is fine. I'd never go over. But with rogers as well as a few of other carriers it states that my data plan can't be used as a modem. I'm wondering how they would know. I don't want to end up with one of those crazy bills.

So what I'd like to know is if anyone has heard anything on this or even if someone can explain the tec. side and how they may or may not find out.

What's the difference, do you have an unlimited data plan?

If there is a post please point me to it but I have an iPhone jailbroken with a rogers data plan. Is there any way for them to tell if I am using it as a modem with PDAnet?
