Agree with a lot of the posts so far regarding Storm - with texting problems, screen issues, bulky size, etc. If you want all of that fixed AND a global phone - go for RIM's new one - the BB Tour (both Verizon & Sprint offer it). It has a brilliant screen (though not as big as the Storm's or iPhone's), and a great keyboard, along with all the other great features we have come to expect from a Blackberry - memory card slot, intuitive trackball, personal & Corp email, stereo Bluetooth, etc.

Agreed. Storm can get great with some TLC.

I remain hopeful that some of these issues people are having will be resolved. I have yet to use it on any provider's network, but I am enjoying playing around with it (got it today!) and I am anxious to see how well it works with the bells and whistles enabled.

The storm needs some love to make it be the great phone it should be. Once the right tools are added it is just as good of a phone as the iphone

I think the clickable keyboard is so cool...

Yeah, while the clickable keyboard seems like a cool idea, it's pretty clunky in practice. I suppose one would get used to it over time though, but having had an iphone for several months now, I'm completely used to using a virtual keyboard. As far as the Storm update is concerned, it was fixing bugs left in when the phone was released, and, while it did do a tiny bit to make it less clunky, it's still a slow laggy phone. The purpose behind the update anyways was to offset the fact that Apple was about to release the 3.0 update and the 3GS. The update was released on the 6th, and the 3.0 release date (the 17th was announced 2 days later at the WWDC. Palm also released the Pre on the 7th, again, to try and steal some thunder from the new iPhone and 3.0 update. In the end, only Storm users and phone phreaks knew about the update, and there was no real added functionality behind the update. I guess I can understand people wanting to stick behind a carrier that they're happy with, as, I was a 5 year customer with T-Mobile, and had virtually no problems with them over the 5 year period of time, and never found myself in a place where I couldn't get a signal. AT&T on the other hand has been pretty good, but I do occationally find myself in a 'dead-zone', but it's a network issue, not signal issue because as soon as I go to dial, I get my bars back. So, what I'm saying is that overall, I'm not really unhappy with the service I've got from AT&T, but if I could have got an iPhone and stayed with T-Mobile, I would have. The storm is bad news though, stay away. You're better off with a $99 3G iPhone through AT&T.

I just wanted to say that I messed with the storm some. The qwerty keyboard comes nowhere close to the a hard qwerty keyboard like my env2. It sounds like you have convinced yourself to get one even though there are still many problems with them. I have read that the updates don't fix enough including the speed. It is also very heavy and clunky. You will also pay double for the internet compared to phones like the env2. By the way, the env3 is now out. I just received a flyer for it and it was only $79.99.

yea, the display one I looked at today was quite laggy, but seeing these updates make me a little more confident in my hopeful purchase of one of these

reason im getting a storm is that I already have an ipod and dont really need an iphones hard drive space, that and I really like verizon's network and seeing how the qwerty keyboard on the storm acts like a hard qwerty keyboard got me, that and its one of the few verizon phones(all blackberries) that are gsm capable meaning going out of the country would only require a sim card or extra roaming charges, not a whole new phone or pre paid phone. Granted at&t and tmobile are like that as a standard, it still is good to see that you can still have the best network(imho, at least where I am (central VA)) and have the possibility of using it abroad

that and they have a sale right now, 149.99 after 70 dollar debit card mail in rebate, so it's 219.99, also if you have verizon, see if you are eligible for the new every two plan, it usually starts 20 months into your 2 year contract, they will give you a 30, 50, or even 100(not sure, about 100) dollar credit to a more expensive phone(where the storm falls into place)

It is, a friend has one and it's very slow. Simple lists are choppy when you're scrolling through, and the physics programming is silly. An iPhone scrolls smooth as glass, and continues to scroll after your finger has left the screen. "Friction" brings it to a halt so that it doesn't scroll forever, but with the storm, as soon as your finger leaves the screen, it stops scrolling, and when it is scrolling it's very VERY choppy. There's no 3D hardware, so there's no 3D games either, all of them are silly, simplistic 2D games, and at that, are quite bad. I had better games on my 386 40 mhz pc 20 years ago. Where the iPhone rivals any dedicated hand held system (PSP, Nintendo, etc).

The biggest issue though is that the Storm is simply the same old same old Blackberry OS with an "iPhone-ish" shell around it. So, if you're a Blackberry fan, you'll dislike it, and if you're an iPhone fan, you'll dislike it. They complete dropped the ball in that department. More than anything that the iPhone offers, the completely re-thought out user interface on the iPhone is it's best feature. Navigation is quick, smooth, easy and intuitive, while the Storm is slow, choppy, and into the same old menu system style OS that ALL smartphones have had since their inception. Personally, I don't know how Apple does it. The interface itself sells the phone, yet the hardware and price beat the Storm hands down, and the Storm could be a better phone despite it's hardware limitations if it was programmed better, and more closely copied the iPhone's interface style, but the poor programming and lack of following through with the new style of interface is completely where the Storm looses out.

The iPhone interface is SO advanced that you're going to see desktop PC's following suit in the near future. You can see it already in the latest version of Safari from Apple, which features cover-flow style browsing though bookmarks.

The storm has alot of issues. For starters, on the hardware side, it's very slow and clunky and has no 3D hardware like an iPhone. On the software side, if you're a blackberry fan, you'll dislike it, because it's basically a standard blackberry OS 'wrapped' with an iPhone like interface. So, on the surface, it seems to be like an iPhone, but, after a click or two, you're into the same menu structure of a Blackberry, which misses the entire point. The iPhone interface is what makes the phone. So, if you like the iPhone, you'll dislike the Storm, and if you're a Blackberry fan, you'll dislike the phone as well. It's a very sad attempt at competition for an iPhone. Also, the web browser and email are horribly slow, and the one 'innovative' thing, the 'clickable' screen is not much of an innovation at all. Don't trust me, hunt the web and read the reviews. On top of all of that, the iPhone 3G has dropped in price to $99 with a two year agreement, and the 3Gs 8 gig is $199. So, you can get a better phone for half the price, or an even better phone for the same price. Go with the iPhone, specifically the 3Gs, you'll not be sorry.

Personally, I dislike the Storm. Being the first touch screen for Blackberry, there was a lot of problems.. for me that was. It was too slow for me.
