When you put a new microSD in your phone, you will need to format the card before the phone will recognize it. Did you get a prompt to format the card? There may be a menu selection in your memory menu for that.

From the drop-down menu, select your carrier (there's a Z6m listed in the Alltellist). Then follow the prompts in the screens that follow.

That's OK, it just means that you have the latest version of MSU. You can check for free updates, but they will only download if they are available. The opening screen of MSU will fill in the info about your phone (model, MEID, etc.) if it actually detects your phone. Sometimes it takes a minute for that to happen. Keep us posted. Sometimes it helps to unplug the cable from the phone and then plug it right back in.

yo idk whts going but wen i connect the usb cable and open msu it says not connected and it says on the screen tht its connected

The message, "Not present" means that your phone is not currently being recognized by your PC. That's where the software comes in. For starters, download the phone's USB driver onto your PC - get the 32-bit driver from this website:

Then download Motorola Software Update (MSU) here:

Then download P2kCommander (P2kC) from the following website:

(If this latest version of P2kC doesn't work, you may have to download an earlier version.

Here's the order: (1) install the USB driver on your PC, (2) plug in your USB cable to the PC, and then into the phone ... you should get an indication that the PC recognizes the phone, (3) launch MSU ... wait until it recognizes the phone, and (4) launch P2kC ... if you get this far successfully, contact us for further help with how to use P2kC to access your phone's file system.

What do you mean, "the hardrive does not show up on my computer or on the screen of the computer"? If you want to know whether the PC recognizes the phone thru your USB cable, look in Control Panel - Phone and Modem, and in the Modems tab you should see a Motorola USB Modem. To be able to access your phone's file system to add things like ringtones or wallpaper files, you will need to launch software such as Motorola Software Update (MSU) and P2kCommander (P2kC).

Both phones have the same type of mini usb connectors so it should work.
