im looking at one also(want to stick with verizon, network is great, want a phone that can do more though) and there have been very recent firmware updates to solve a lot of these issues people are mentioning
one of the admins on the site posted this, these updates are only a couple of weeks old, so there will be a lot of downloading out of the box

yea, the display one I looked at today was quite laggy, but seeing these updates make me a little more confident in my hopeful purchase of one of these
reason im getting a storm is that I already have an ipod and dont really need an iphones hard drive space, that and I really like verizon's network and seeing how the qwerty keyboard on the storm acts like a hard qwerty keyboard got me, that and its one of the few verizon phones(all blackberries) that are gsm capable meaning going out of the country would only require a sim card or extra roaming charges, not a whole new phone or pre paid phone. Granted at&t and tmobile are like that as a standard, it still is good to see that you can still have the best network(imho, at least where I am (central VA)) and have the possibility of using it abroad
that and they have a sale right now, 149.99 after 70 dollar debit card mail in rebate, so it's 219.99, also if you have verizon, see if you are eligible for the new every two plan, it usually starts 20 months into your 2 year contract, they will give you a 30, 50, or even 100(not sure, about 100) dollar credit to a more expensive phone(where the storm falls into place)
