I have the new Motorola Milestone, which is designed to support 32 GB Micro SD card, and I look forward to, really! I have tons of GB iPod touch, they do not want to do more. Give me a tip!

They're out. Kind of. You can buy the 32GB microSD card directly from SanDisk's web site. They cost $200, this way, but they do exist.

This is the limit for the SDHC format, unfortunately. It's not really a hardware issue... there's no good reason an SHDC card can't go higher. And maybe some will... SD cards were cut off at 2GB, but some 4GB versions were release, though they didn't work on all device. Most 4GB cards are SDHC. The different there is big: SDHC requires FAT32, and does block-oriented access (like a hard drive), SD requres FAT16, and does byte-oriented addressing (like memory).

The microSDHC cards at 32GB will be the maximum size for awhile to come, simply due to the space needed. The cards are only big enough for a single chip, so they expand by stacking chips. The 8-chip stack going into these new cards just fits in the 1mm space available (similar stacked technology, for use in devices like iPhones that don't use card memory, stuff 64GB in stacks of even more layers).

The main reason for SDXC is the file system: it officially requires exFAT (also known as FAT64), and will allow files larger than 4GB.

Some smart phones may be technically capable of upgrade to exFAT and SDXC support, there's no telling if any will release such updates. Palm did this -- the Motorola CPU they used on many of their PDAs and smartphones could support SDHC. Oddly, they did release support for the Treo 700p, but not for the Palm TX... despite the fast they used the same CPU. So there may well be similar games in this upgrade go'round.

I've got a new Motorola Milestone cellphone that's supposed to support the 32 gb micro SD card, and look forward, indeed! I have tons of gb in my iPod touch that don´t want to carry anymore in it. Please give me a hint!

    Thanks!
Doesn't look like they are out yet and it will be max size for micro sd if this article is correct. I have a Droid (comes with 16gb) and would not mind a larger card but honestly, 1200 songs and 3 movies is probably enough, the movies are about 1.2gb each after I convert them to full screen droid format.

The link below really doesn't give us a very good ETA but it's a little more info regarding the 32GB Micro SD. Hope it helps some. I have a Droid as well and I'm also waiting for it. I'm sure it'll be pricey!
Good Luck! Hope everyone had a safe and happy New Year!

Since I'm new to this forum...I can't post a link yet. Hopefully most will figure it out.

It's now the end of 2009 and still no 32GB micro SD cards available. I have a Motorola Droid and I want a larger card real bad, is there any expected ETA on when these will be released?
