Guess what: The Verizon Wireless Global Phones (world phones) DO NOT use SIM Cards while in the United States. Most of the Global phones work perfectly without a SIM Card inserted at all.

With a Verizon Wireless Global Phone, you must go into settings and switch the phone from CDMA mode to GSM while international. If you were to try that in the USA, it would say NO SERVICE indefinitely.

    IT DOES NOT WORK!

This may work, but it would be pointless.

to do it, you must use the new verizon mifi. this is a small device that retransmits a wireless signal using a verizon broadband plan. you can carry it in your pocket and have wireless internet wherever you go!

if you want to do this it is $40/month for 250mb or $60/month for 5gb.

obviously, you wouldn't use the standard phone or sms, but you could use applications that you download from the appstore (i.e. skype). all functions of the iphone would work except the phone and sms applications.

this is a fairly inexpensive way to use the iphone with verizon or alltel (verizon now owns alltel). unfortunately, it is not ideal, but if you are locked into a verizon plan, this is the only way to use an iphone.

    Verizon doesn't activate SIM CARDS.

I do mobile development on the iPhone and I think I can help. Ok
    1) you can switch the to CDMA hardware from GSM but you with have to change the total iPhone OS on how the phone communicates then you need to add a ESN slot and all that.
    2) to activate a CDMA type phone you MUST activate in stores it's not like the SIM Cards where you pop in a SIM and go. If you did get everything right and changed correctly your service provider probably wouldn't let you activate it.

Must I also remind you tampering with the iPhone OS is not recommended so be careful with that. I have a iPhone 3G with T-Mobile and I run iPhone OS 3.0 email me for SIM unlock info or Twitter me
    Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A341 Safari/528.16
