you can bring over most sprint phones but hey have to have a clean esn # if you owe a past bill or it has been flashed to cricket or pocket or any other carrier it wont work you can check if it has a clean esn # with www.CheckESNFree.com - Sprint - Virgin Mobile - Boost Mobile - Live ESN Checker. it will tell you if its good or not good

I'm no expert but I do know Boost offers service on both iden (like Nextel) and cdma (like Sprint) networks. When I think of iden (Nextel) network I think of walkie-talkie and no roaming but poor internet capabilities although you can access it. When I think if cdma (Sprint) network I think of smart phones and more up-to-date technology with much smoother and more capable internet connections. It is weird "to me" that Boost doesn't advertise that they have service on either network. They just casually mention it to you when you call to activate a phone that you've probably already got and more often than not is a iden network phone b/c that is mostly what you are told...get the nextel capable phones & they will work with boost. That sort of steers or guides you into the iden network. In my opinion, unless you do your research ahead of time and obtain a smartphone that works with Boost then you'd either never know there was two networks or you would know (as in my wife's case) and you'd be out $100 bucks on a phone that works on the iden network only wishing you'd have known there was the cdma option which offers far superior internet capabilities.

Now as you no longer have an active account with Sprint, they may not give it to you and some providers require you to be active for a certain amount of time.

Another issue may be the data. The BB is a PDA, and if Boost does'nt provide an unlimited data feature, and charges you at a pay per use rate, any updates for the BB may charge your acct without even touching you phone. So,call sprint and ask for the unlock code,or try to find a code online. Call Boost and ask about their data costs.

No matter if you are using Nextel or Sprint, you do not need a subsidy unlock code for Boost. On the Nextel side as the technology is IDEN your phone can only be used with other IDEN carriers. You do not need the code for Boost because Boost is prepaid Nextel. On the CDMA side the phone does not contain a SUC, just a programming code called a SPC, but this programming code is available when connecting service with Boost if you have a Sprint phone because once again Boost CDMA is prepaid Sprint and the phones can be used on Boost with no problem. So the BB can be used but since Boost does not offer BB data plans you will not have web and email capabilities only text and voice.

Sorry but that is not accurate. Boost Mobile does in fact have CDMA phones as well as IDEN phones. The BOOST MOBILE CDMA is on the Sprint Network.

Spoke with Boost today--with three reps--and they all stated that NO, a CDMA berry cannot be used on their network.

    Thanks for all the posts.

    have a good night!

Sprint uses CDMA. Boost/Nextel uses iDen. CDMA and iDEN are different and incompatible technologies, so the answer to your question is no, you cannot use a Sprint phone on Boost. Only iDen phones (like those used by Nextel) can be used on Boost. In fact, outside of PTT (Push to Talk), iDen is a pretty useless and antiquated technology. One other company in the US uses iDen and few around the world, but overall iDen is the "redheaded stepchild" of cellular technology. That being said, I understand the allure of Boost, particularly in this economy. $50 unlimited is a wonderful deal, but the question becomes what will you loose or gain. Sometimes you get what you pay for; sometimes you do not. I would suggest that you make sure Boost offers the coverage/service that you desire/need, otherwise that $50 might be wasted.

Yes and no. Let me explain. Boost/Nextel uses SIM cards, which you can just switch from one phone to another, as long as that phone uses the same technology/bands/frequencies. It's the same principle with GSM phones, such as those sold by AT&T and T-Mobile. Given this, you can technically buy a Nextel Blackberry and use it on Boost; however, you will be limited. Blackberry devices use service books and those service books are sent to the phone once it connects to RIM's servers. This happens only if you have a Blackberry data plan. Without the data plan, the phone will not connect to RIM's servers and your Blackberry will not function as designed. It will be a voice and text only device, no push mail, no Blackberry browser, etc. With, Boost, which is basically a prepaid Nextel service, even if they have data plans (I'm not sure), you would need a Blackberry data plan for your Blackberry to function as designed. In the end, you can use a Nextel Blackberry on Boost, but it will be a voice and text only device. Maybe you will be satisfied with that. I'm not sure. I hope that helps.

As angel said you'll have to contact Boost Mobile. And with nextel blackberrys on boost iden side they don't work 100% so i'm not sure if a Sprint CDMA blackberry would work 100% either. It might.

Good luck. And i hope it works out for you.

Is there anyone who knows if a Sprint (CDMA) Blackberry 8130 can be used on Boost's mobile network on their Unlimited $50/month plan? And if so, what EXACTLY do I need to do to get this set up?

    Thanks!
