Yes Palm Pre gets bad reception. Been with Sprint over 6 years, new phones every 18-24 months, always good reception. Last July I got a new Palm Pre, so did my son in Tampa, FL, and other son in Orlando, FL. All of us are having reception problems except my wife who got the Instinct S30.

We all have replaced batteries in the Pre, and one of us got a new replacement Pre, same bad reception problem.

I dont think the model of the phone has nothing to do with the reception, you may want to double check the signal stenght on you area

I sometimes have bad reception in buildings, but I think the phone is much better because I get service with it in places that I didn't with other sprint phones....Might just be your phone....

I don't know what these other people are thinking, but you're right. The Pre does have trouble with bad reception. If you do a google search on this, you can probably find a number of forums in which Pre users voice the same concern. Those who had a Blackberry with Sprint and then switch to the Pre, have noticed marked change in their ability to get reception. I wasn't in this boat, but I know that when I'm in the same area as my brother with his Sprint phone, he can get better reception than I can with my Pre and can get reception at places where I get no signal. From correspondence I've hard over the forums, it seems that many of us have problems with reception going in and out, in and out. I think Palm is aware of this issue, and it may be one of the factors that contributed to Verizon deciding not to pick up the Pre in December.

I have yet to run into any reception problems. I work in a hospital and used to get a bad reception with my old phone inside due to all of the machines. But I have not had that problem with the Pre. The Sprint network seems pretty wide.

It maybe a bad phone, I have combed through some other pre sites and have not seen this to be an often reported problem.

If you live close to a Sprint repair center it maybe worth it to have them check it out, I had a Treo 800w with a bad vibrate motor 45 minuets and it was fixed!

What makes you certain that it's the phone and not the network? I ask because reception is usually hardware or network related and there's very little, if anything, that a software (update) will or can do to improve it.
