    Same thing, means get all tide up. If you're OK the way you are now, why renew? Unless you get a better deal out of it, I'll say try to stay away from any contract. Most people would say that is the same thing since you still have to pay for the air time, but if you get upset with the company or have a chance to get a better deal with another company, then you won't be able to. But, everybody is his own world.

    Glad, I don't have to worry about these since my contract's up and I can just renew and upgrade.

    Nope, they won't nor are they required to drop the penalty fees if you breech the contract.

    It really has nothing to do with having their equipment. It has to do with the fact you agreed to something and therefore you should have a penalty for breaking the agreement. If you were to buy a phone outright for T-Mobile (or even an unlocked AT&T to try and use on T-Mobile) they will require you to commit to at least a two year agreement to get their services...unless you wish to be prepaid...which has drawbacks.

    The only exception to the above is if you're on Verizon Wireless and request a month to month plan, which is nearly the same as contract and requires credit check...but you aren't locked in...and you cannot get a phone at a discounted price.

    Yep, I agree with you, if you are satisfy with the service that you have now, then there is no need to extend the contract. The idea to sign a contract is to hold you for sure for the terms agreed, and in exchange they give a "free" phone, (yeah!,Right). The penalty fee for breaching the contract is because you have an equipment of theirs, so if you breach the contract and return the phone, aren't hey suppose to drop the penalty fees? That's the reason I don't like contracts, and unless I think is really worth it, I rather pay for an unlock phone that to extend the contract for a "free" phone. My two cents.

    Whenever you deal with any phone company, it's good practice to follow up and make sure that nothing extended your contract by mistake.

    Something like this happened to me when I downgraded a plan, was told it would not affect my contract at all, and found out later otherwise. The mistake was easily corrected, but it was something that was overlooked by someone that could have resulted in potential troubles on my end.

    It's a very good move, and since it's from T-Mobile, no? All you have to do is install the sim card, that's all. To transfer anything else, you need to have the old phone working, because it would be by way of BT. About the ringtones, if you had them save in your memory card, just place the memory card in to the new phone. Next time, anything that you want in your phone, make sure to save it in your computer , under My Cellphone or something like that. I'm glad everything work out OK.

    Thank you again for your help.

    I ended up going with the Samsung Vanilla/T349 (compatible with my Blast phone chargers, so now I have 2 wall and 1 car charger). I bought it at Walmart (it's actually a Pre-Paid phone, which was cheaper) and switched over the SIM and Memory cards. Is that all I need to do?

    Also, what all can be switched over from the Blast to the Vanilla? Is there a way to copy over the Calendar, Notes, etc? What about downloaded ringtones? I'm guessing not, but wanted to make sure before I re-download them.

    Thanks again for all your help. It's much appreciated.

    Well, if you pay full price for the phone then they won't extend the contract, is like buying it from any other store. But it will cost you double, for example, a free phone with a contract might cost you like $120.00 or more, depending on the model. Go to the T-Mobile web site and check the phone's prices without contract. Now, whatever phone you decide to buy, if it's unlock, you will have to set up the wap and mms yourself, it's quite easy, I have a Sciphone i68+ and I set up the internet my self with T-Mobile. Anything else that you need, just let us know, more than happy to help.

    Thanks for the reply. That phone as way more things on it then what I need. I just need email/web, messengers and texting capabilities. How do I go about buying a new phone? If I go thru a T-Mobile store, won't they have to extend my contract?

    Sweetheart, you don't need to extend the contract, all you need is another phone from T-Mobile, or buy an unlock phone. Whichever you choose, all you have to do is install the sim to the new phone. May I recommend a cheap brand new phone? If all you do is called, get Sciphonei68+, it works super fine with your sim card, and it cost about $85.00 brand new.

    Last year I bought a Samsung Blast thru the mail (sadly I neglected to get a warranty) that is now having the white/distorted screen, won't answer incoming calls/etc issues(I found a couple posts on here, but it seems there's no way to correct the problem without a warranty). I was trying to find someone with the same phone (from Craigslist) that was willing to get rid of the phone, but there isn't anyone local to me. I have 11 months left on my contract but don't want to extend the contract by upgrading to a new phone (plus don't have the funds for an upgrade).



    My question is this: If I get another phone (Samsung or another brand), can I just switch out my SIM and Memory Card and use that phone til my contract is up? Or would it still upgrade my contract?



    Any other options for me til get thru the next 11 months?? As a single mom, I need a working cell phone!
