Is it better to root or just to leave your phone the way it came???

The easiest way is to go to the xda-dev website/Dream forum. There are links to one-step rooting and adb and roms and all that.

I rooted my phone because I wanted to experiment with different roms but there are some programs out there that require it. Wifi tether is one, I think.

If you do root, make sure you search out and install Market Enabler, so you can buy paid apps. Every time I flash a new rom, I have to fix permissions, fix market and reboot several times. If that doesn't sound like fun, then maybe you wouldn't want to bother.

BTW, users who haven't played with their phones like this should ALWAYS read the instructions to the letter, especially the ones involving radio versions. No one wants a bricked phone.
