    I'm not sure on which phones are Avialable to use without a data plan on att but this is what I am sure about (it maybe the same for att)

    I currently run on the Sprint network and they have the same sort of data charges on certian phones.

    Now you can use an old school smartphone without a data plan such as the palm 700 either the p with palm os or wx with windows os or the palm 755 or the htc mogul windows.

    att has simuliar phones that all you need to due is swap your sim card to the new phone, these old phones are avialable used on ebay at reasonable prices and do not require the data plans.

    I don't know how much you pay for your service but sprint does have everything plans that are pretty cheap and include the datawith the newest hitech smartphones.

    Hope this helps

    I've spent a few weeks researching phones and plans but I can't seem to find consistent answers so I'm hoping I can find some help here.

    I've had my phone for over 5 years now (it's actually coming close to 7) and it's time I got a bit more from my cell phone. My job and lifestyle requires me to remember lots of tasks and multitask like a mad man. I work and live in a wifi filled world and rarely roam outside of it. So, without going into every detail about why I have this request (believe me it's justified) here it is;

    I want a cell phone that has a full keyboard (or is otherwise very easy to 'type' with), is wifi capable, can take organized notes, browse the web (w/the wifi), it would be nice to have GPS (not a req, just a perk), that I can check my email with (while in wifi), but I do not want to pay the extra $360 a year for the data plan. There is no way I can justify that cost as I'm not on the thing constantly.

    Yes I know many smart phones can do all this and more w/a data plan.

    So, the question begs, does a phone that can do all of this exist or am I wasting my time? I'm not here to argue why or why not have the plan, I just wish to know if it's possible in our technological world (or more accurately, do any providers allow you to do it).

    Thank you so much for your time and thoughts, it is greatly appreciated!
