Thanks for the suggestion Emms. I added that 5 posts are required before downloading ringtones and wallpapers to the new member welcome message. This notification is also given on the error page given to a user that does not have permission to download.

I understand the reasning behind the 5 posts before you can download. However, it would be helpful if that information was made obvious to new users.

I experienced the same prob as Rome when trying to download and it took a lot of searching to find a post that was relevant.

Perhaps you could put it in an FAQ... My apologies if it is already in one, but I couldn't find it!

I'm sorry you're having a hard time. CPF doesn't confirm e-mail addresses on registration so you should've been able to log in right after you registered. In fact, you should've already been logged in after registering. Perhaps there's an error somewhere - I will check it out to make sure.

All members have to have at least 5 posts before being able to download anything from the forums. This rule was put in place from the very beginning (used to be 10 posts) as a way to tell new members "if you want something you should give back a little". Sometimes the result is junk, but the people that do give back knowledge outweighs the junk.

...oh I just found this... how do you think anybody wants to start to participate in your community, if you punish him/her from the very beginning??

Pls review your forum guidelines - this is really annoying

    hi there,

I've been looking for an old nokia ringtone, which I found in this forum. In order to download it (or even be able to only listen to it) I signed up.

First hassel: I was welcomed, but my confirmation mail never arrived - so I wasn't able to sign in, ergo - no way to get to the ringtone

I signed up again, new username... wait for 12hrs... tata... got an email, with which I was welcomed to the forum. went on the page, to log in, but it didn't accept my password! and yes... I'm pretty sure I remember it correctly from yesterday... and no, there was no typo, I've treid it 5 times...

So here I go again, requesting a new password. Once it came and I had to go through the usual shabang with confirmation blah blah, I was finally able to log in - trara!!

So I tried again to click on the attached ringtone file... but it still says:

"rome, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation."

I'm sure there are a lot of nice people posting interesting stuff on this forum. But the technical side of accessing really sucks - sorry, but after all this hassle I can't find a nicer word
