You are correct that if you get the HTC Hero unlocked you will be able to use it with your sim card. You need make sure that the phone isn't from Sprint or Verizon. Those carriers don't use sim cards and so you wont be able to use any of their phones.

If you are looking for a pay as you go plan you will need to get the sim card for that specific company. You cant find a random sim card and try and use it.

When shopping for phones, make sure they use a technology called GSM. AT&T, T-Mobile, and Rogers use sim cards. Verizon and Sprint use a technology that is called CDMA and they don't use sim cards. SIM stands for Subscriber Identity Module. The card contains all of your contacts and network information.

NOTE: I am a sim card noob so excuse me if I say just plain stupid stuff.

So I want to get an HTC Hero off a used sales site (similar to ebay, but its local) and it say the phone uses a sim card. I looked up sim cards and saw that they keep all your info in them. SO I am wondering if I get the phone unlocked and get the sim card set to Bell or Rogers, does that mean I can put the phone on a pay as you go plan?

PLEASE respond and mabye give a little bit of a guide to what sim cards can do, that would be appreciated.

    - Afro
