    Hi Peter,

There are many prepaid options, but I would recommend that you look at the Net 10 website.

Their calls cost 10 c a minute and you get 300 free minutes when you buy a phone, which is worth $30, so if you buy a $30 phone, it is actually free. You don't say where you are from, but they have international calling at 15 c a minute to over 100 countries. I have used Net 10 for about 6 months and have found it excellent.

Hello everyone, first time poster here so I apologize if this ended up in the wrong forum section, etc

Anyways, I'm starting my university exhange in the US this fall, but I'm only staying for about 3 to 4 months so I will probably need some sort of prepaid phone. However, I'm not familiar with the US system so I have a couple of questions:

    1) Can you recharge money into a prepaid sim card once it runs out or do you have to get a new one (and a new number)? Additionally, can you charge them at any electronics store or is it more specific? Will the money you put in expire after a specific time?

    2) Will a prepaid sim card work with any phone, ie. can I use my old phone with the prepaid sim card or do I also have to buy a phone in conjunction? Furthermore, if I do have to buy a phone, can I use the phone with any other sim cards once I stop using the prepaid connection?

    3) Will prepaid connections work in other countries, for example in Canada?

I have zero experience with US providers so any recommendations considering prices, reception, etc. are also more than welcome.

    Thanks in advance,
    Peter
