Pressing menu allows you to put in an 8 digit code in a box labeled 'Enter Special Code'.
If you put the wrong code in 3 times it comes up with an error message that says something like 'Subsidy penalty, please wait'. This completely locks the phone for about 3 hours. (I know this b/c Boost initially insisted that the unlock code was 8 zeros)
I have been on the phone for over 5 hours now with Nextel, Boost, and Motorola, everyone seems to point the finger elsewhere, but you will absolutely need a Subsidy unlock code for your Boost i1 to release it from the Boost network to allow you to use a Nextel card in it. Motorola says that is a code installed by Boost, so they have no knowledge of a bypass, Sprint says the same thing.
Boost was the hardest to crack b/c their customer service may be the dumbest people I have ever spoken to, until I finally got a supervisor who says he understands exatcly what I am talking about, and "although Boost isn't in the business of releasing their phones to be used by other carriers, we would give you a code if you were persistant, however, we do not have any codes as of yet for this phone, you are the first to even call about one to my knowledge, I wouldn't even know where to transfer you to try to track one down".
Again, a Nextel card will not work in a Boost i1 without an unlock code, which doesn't seem to exist yet, unless you have a website do it, which is what I am in the process of doing now
LATER ON THAT EVENING:
I was never able to get it done via phone calls, but I found a guy on eBay, $20, figured I would give it a shot.
Everything worked exactly as directed, little bit of software download, a couple emails back and forth, 30 minutes later, my Nextel Sim works with my Boost Mobile Motorola i1.
PM me if you want the info for the company on ebay I used, I don't want to give it out here, I don't know if that's allowed.
You may have to call nextel when you are done to have them register the IMEI number of the phone to your account. I don't know for sure, but Sprint did it one time when I was on the phone with them through the course of yesterday, so I don't know if you will instantly have service from Nextel unless you do.
