This is going to be the dumbest question in here, but I did read the entire thread to make sure it wasn't answered. What if I neither possess nor have access to a SIM card from another carrier? All of my friends either also have AT&T(my carrier) or have Verizon (No sim).

This worked wonders for one phone...Thank You Robb. Now I have a pain in the tush, as I said I got it to work on one but I cannot get it to work for another phone ( 1st phone unlocked and useable, even with different SIM card...tired for the 2nd, Nothing works). When I power up the Samsung phone I get message asking for the "SIM network Unlock PIN". All of the phones were alike (new service, same Nokia's...and old service Samsung GalaxyS (changing from Nokia back to Samsung). Any Help would be so appreciated, since I am really feeling out witted by a phone ;~{ Thanks Deb
Have also gone into the call screen and put in the #7465625*638* got to the MCC/MNC part...I'm okay with the MCC, but once again I don't have the PIN or unlock #....what to do? I have done with the SIMs card in and out, old and new. This is crazy, the 1st phone was some sort of easy...Nothing like this...two days in my life lost to a fridgin phone.

if you are not sure if your samsung is unlocked or not you can do this:

    press *#7465625#

A menu will be displayed that will resemble the following...

    1. [ ] Network lock
    2. [ ] Subset lock
    3. [ ] SP lock

In most cases when a cellular phone is purchased from a service provider,
it is often sim locked to that provider such that only sim cards from that particular service provider will work. Cell phone unlocking removes this carrier lock, It enables you to use your phone with any sim card, regardless which provider you bought it from.

    For Example,

Instructions for unlocking Samsung I5500 Galaxy 5

1 - Switch ON your phone with a not Accepted SIM Card,

2 - Phone will ask for "Password" or "Network Lock"

3 - You can now enter the Unlock Code we sent to you below.

    OR

1 - Switch ON your phone with a not Accepted SIM Card,

2 - Compose: #0111*followed by UNLOCK CODE PROVIDED BY US followed by#

    OR

1 - Switch ON your phone WITHOUT SIM card,

2 - Compose: #7465625*638*followed by UNLOCK CODE PROVIDED BY US followed by#

    OR

    1. Put an unaccepted SIM card in the phone, turn the phone on, it will display WRONG CARD

    2. Type *2767*3855# and wait for the phone to reboot

    3. Then type *CODE*638*followed by UNLOCK CODE PROVIDED BY US followed by#

If display read "Network lock personalized"

    4. Then type #CODE*638*followed by UNLOCK CODE PROVIDED BY US followed by#

You will see "Network lock deactivated"

    OR

    1. Enter # 0111*unlock code #

    2. Press the SEND key and the display should read, "Personalization Cancelled"

NOTE: "Not Yet Personalized" will be displayed if it has already been unlocked

Sometimes it is not necessary to press SEND at the end

    Your phone is now unlocked.

You can find the unlock code and instructions for any samsung model from various websites like "http://unlockgenie.com" , from where i got the instructions.
