I have the in car system. It's fine as long as the windows are up! With the windows down, folks on the other end have trouble hearing. I use it for short trips and errands, but still use the headset for longer trips and times with the windows down.

A plus positive with the headset is I can send and receive text messages as well!!

Though it definitely adds more risk to driving, some (minimal) in-car cell phone use is almost becoming un-avoidable. If it must be done, calls should be kept to a minimum, and having a headset/speaker and phone holder is becoming a must too these days. You need to be able to quickly see and either take or ignore an incoming call w/o taking one hand off the wheel to look for the phone in your cupholder. Some things like these ::PDA CART:: can help and are worth every dime if they add convenience and minimize risk. If you car already comes with Bluetooth, definitely look up 'pairing' or connecting instructions for your phone - it only takes 5 mins max.

Yeah they are. But its not just mobile phones that are illegal to use when driving, if the police were to catch you using an iPod (mp3 player) changing the radio station or eating an apple they can prosecute for driving without due care and attention. (In the UK anyway)

Yeah. This happened after that law was passed. Its a good thing that we do have these now. It does adds up to our safety when driving. Do you know? Besides hands free cellphones, even ipods and mp3s are also on the rise these days?

Its probably just the Basic, i'd double check with the nearest Honda Dealer though. It should say Premium either on the radio or in the hand book if it is.

Website wise, check out bluetoothcarkitdirect.co.uk but it may be cheaper to find one that's based in the USA (there are plenty of good kits available though)

Not only is the technology really cool and useful it also saves lives (with out doubt). To get a little bit more serious now, a number of studies have shown that we are 4 x more likely to be involved in an accident while driving and using a mobile (Cell) Phone and reaction time are reduced by 50% minimum. A little more information about the Laws is available here if you are interested (British Laws anyway) sorry no link allowed yet. Visit bluetooth car kit direct and look for FAQ

Car Manufacturers are putting more and more Bluetooth / hands-free devices in their cars. Why? Because consumers somewhat savvy with electronics love the new features that Bluetooth can bring to their car. Furthermore, more states are enacting anti cell phone driving laws, which makes it illegal to drive while using your cell phone without a ‘hands-free device’.

In 2004, Lexus was the first to offer a Bluetooth device as standard equipment in their LX 470. It was part of the DVD navigation system. Surprisingly Chrysler was the first to offer a system in their PT Cruiser and Pacifica with their ‘U-Connect hands-free communication option’ in late 2004 models.

By 2005 there were 14 models that offered some sort of Bluetooth connectivity. Today, out of the 369 (currently) available new 2008 models in the US, 105 of them can have some sort of Bluetooth device either standard or as an optional feature from the factory. That is roughly 28%, which is up 11% from 2007. (75 out of 395)

What does this mean for you? More convenience! These Bluetooth features are commonly part of a larger system that integrates into the cars audio system, and sometimes video system. When your phone is connected and you receive a call, the music is lowered and, through the interface, either a dashboard/steering wheel button, or a voice recognition system, you can answer the call. You will hear the person you’re talking to through the car speakers. Some cars have a built in microphone so the caller can hear you more clearly.

The reverse for when you want to make a call. For voice recognition systems you can simply say ‘call mom’. These more advanced systems download your contacts list, and allow you to call whoever you want by saying their name. Lexus, Infiniti, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Jaguar, Land Rover and a couple other higher end models, all offer navigation systems that incorporate Bluetooth with voice commands. The newer Microsoft SYNC, which is being offered in new Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Buick vehicles, even reads back txt messages through your audio system for you.

Some manufactures, such as Infiniti, are making it even easier for the consumer to use their phone with their new car. They made this page: Infiniti USA - Bluetooth Wireless Phone Technology
To help identify which of their cars have Bluetooth and which phones they can use with it.

Other manufactures, such as Acura and their HandsFreeLink system, have demonstration videos on their websites displaying exactly how their systems work. (Acura.com)

As cell phone technology grows, people become more familiar with the technology, and laws change, the consumer can continue to see features added to their vehicles that were once only available on higher end vehicles.
