see I told you You would only need a different sim card if your phone is an iPhone 4 which would require a micro sim. Well, congratulations on getting your new phone then

I don't have the phone yet, should have it this week but I don't think it is a 3gs. The sim I am using is an att 3g. My friend said I would have to go to an att store and ask for a sim for an iphone because it is different. I don't know but I will try my sim in it.

If it's a 3GS then any 3G sim card will work with it as long as it's factory unlocked but if what your friend meant was you have to use an ATT sim because the phone is locked to their network service then you will need to either get an ATT sim or have the phone unlocked. I used to own an iPhone 3GS before that I purchased from timtechs and I was happy to learn that it was factory unlocked because I wasn't too happy with ATT's service
