I'm debating between the Evo and the Samsung Epic but my biggest interest in the smart phone is using it as a media player. I'm a film student at USC and it would be really nice to be able to have mobile video files.

At first I was in love with the Evo because of the HDMI out feature. I thought it would be so great to have the films I've shot on the phone and simply be able to plug them into an LCD or any other HDMI advice. However, I've been hearing mixed results as far as this feature goes. I've heard that the Evo can only output 720p (not 1080 which I shoot in) and that it has trouble with certain codecs (like H264) and a lot of LCD TVs are having trouble reading the files. Is this true?

If the HDMI out isn't all it's cracked up to be then I wonder if the Epic would be a better choice as a media player.
