blah,
in case any1's wondering bout the $25 a month virgin phones, i've had the rumor touch a little while and don't like it that much and rather got the samsung intercept for $50 more or the lg optimus because rumor touch not being a smart phone doesnt let a lot work on the phone. it can't stream music at all even from the link on virgin mobile they have specifically for cells. it can't stream music in any form flash player or anything i tried lotsa different sites. it can't download anyfiles except pictures but i did get a tiny 30 second or so mp3 to play from a link but can't download it. the youtube capabilite is just basic- it starts from the beginning of video and you cant ff or rew or skip ahead and when the vids over, the phone goes back to the main menu and you gotta go all the way back 2 utube to watch another one. youtube skips a lot even with full bars signal. there are some annoying things like alarm can only be set with touch screen and it's hit or miss to get it to move one minute at a time, pain in the arse. the games available are very basic like the ones on a $40 flip phone. the vibrate on max for calls is so weak, i didn't feel it and missed calls when i couldnt hear it cause i had headphones on with my ipod. twice the price but still only $200 i'll get intercept andoid or optimus worth it to not miss the vibrate on calls and get radiation tumors from streaming internet radio in the car or wherever.

The browser of 8530 is nearly identical to the one present on the Tour, as is much of the rest of the OS. The addition of WiFi, however, is a welcome one. The lack of 802.11 in the original Tour is still something we're appalled by, but we're glad to see Verizon (and Sprint) coming through on their promises to include the requisite radios on all smartphones moving forward.

Biggz, Just to clarify/fix the thread.

you said: "$35 dollars is not bad for unlimited data and text some companies charge$20 to $40 just for unlimited data packages." I assume this means as an add-on to any plan that has limited/no data/web

I said: "yeah but that's probably for a contract plan with the benefit of it being one can get a phone that would cost $500 on a non contract plan for like $150 usually i guess." because that is a worse plan than "beyond talk" UNLESS more than 300 mins is a must.

you said: "No contract, thats the virgin mobile 300 min unlimited data and text plan for blackberries." Which IS the "beyond talk" we've been discussing that's $25

(or $35 if customer service lied to me when they said: Email quote: "The $10 Blackberry's Add On charge is optional. If you do not pay the extra $10 you won't be able to use Blackberry applications or access the Blackberry application world but you will still have access to all the web services such as non-blackberry email")

for unlimited everything (DATA) and 300 mins. but still if BBerry MUST pay $10 a month extra, it's $35, and that's not extra $20 to $40 just for unlimited data like you said.

Ya i thought you might roll with the touch it was a good deal we sell them for $150 the touch screens on them are pretty good better than most but not as good as like an i1 or an intercept but enjoy the phone.

if you do activate or opt out of the $10 charge i will be impressed please keep me updated
i actually chose the rumor touch to save like $45, money is tight and the keyboard is alot easier to use than blackberrie's. If i chose the blackberry, i'd be tempted to spend 25$ more for the intercept android with 3.15 mp and a better keyboard than rumor touch. I hope the touch screen doesn't go bad and will have to remove the screen protector or look at fingerprints instead of a clea video/game. I looked up 'best apps" and don't want 99% of em. i do like the one where if the phone is lost, one can use a computer to find the gps and put a lock on everything. i can use shoutcast etc instead of pandora app to stream music. not sure if rumor touch has a place to officially buy games, there are workaround tutorials i see on youtube where one must download files to computer 1st then usb phone to computer- pretty sure that's illegal though so i won't.
all 3 phones are bargains. i paid $105 for my verizon flip that has like nothing- 1mp camera that wouldn't even load up after about a year, no usb so can't save pics, and that's about all the phone had plus calculator, calender, alarm, etc but like every phone has those.
take care

they might have recently made the $10 more a month for Blackberries optional to keep customers from switching. ?
IDK i will check next time I activate a BlackBerry but Im 100% sure that boost is not optional and since boost virgin and sprint are pretty much all the same company i doubt theyve changed their BlackBerry policy like i said if you do activate or opt out of the $10 charge i will be impressed please keep me updated....I called vm dealer support and they said in no case is it an option.
yeah but that's probably for a contract plan with the benefit of it being one can get a phone that would cost $500 on a non contract plan for like $150 usually i guess.
No contract, thats the virgin mobile 300 min unlimited data and text plan for blackberries.
I would def. report them and I don't know any one else who would run a BlackBerry on that cheap of a plan but then again I haven't looked.
i had them clarify the contradiction, and it is optional. they replied: If you do not pay the $10 Blackberry add-on, you will not be able to use any application related to Blackberry specifically and that includes Blackberry World.

So if opt out, one can still use non-blackberry apps. they say can't use blackberry world, i guess that means even to browse, but it's a regular website anyway.

$35 dollars is not bad for unlimited data and text some companies charge $20 to $40 for just unlimited data packages[/
yeah but that's probably for a contract plan with the benefit of it being one can get a phone that would cost $500 on a non contract plan for like $150 usually i guess.

I got an email responce and they said that one cant pay just one month for Blackberry APP world, download/buy a bunch of apps and still use them if don't pay for the next month(s).
they did say i could in the bold and undelined text above. you have to check one question 5 times with them and believe the answer given most, especially if you call them and not email. doubt they would give me this free because of a incorrect support email. the apps won't work if they are specifically blackberry apps, so i could still get other apps. maybe even free blackberry apps wouldn't work if not paying $10 more a month. in contrast, I'm pretty sure there's no app store on rumor touch and have to hope that what you download off the internet 3rd party sites are not bogus or hacks or whatever, unlike BlackBerry apps world which you can trust.

they might have recently made the $10 more a month for Blackberries optional to keep customers from switching. ?

So if you are please keep me updated I am very curious to see, it would be awesome if you could
i should get it optional because of false advertisement from these emails and/or someone might get fired/downgraded at customer service for wrinting false info.

if the plan's $35 for a Blackberry, then metro PCS's $40 not $40ish plan is competition and might have better options.
$25 a month unlimited everything300mins is the best bargain for anyone who uses the phone everyday and doesn't talk for more than 300mins a month -virgin aparently had to offer this as a last resort to save their butts hoping they would get everyone to switch over to this plan less profit per person but more volume of customers to make profit.(i pay more with verizon's cheapest non-contract plan now and don't get any internet, and texting is 10cents each-it's a dollar a day unlimited verizon-to-verizon talk 10cents a min non verizon talk) if not using the phone everyday, there are even cheaper options like cingular(Before became at&t) had for a dollar a day if phone used, and 10cents for data/text and the $30 wouldn't expire for like 2 or 3 months.

If that's what they told you I won't argue, but as a dealer of Virgin Mobile phones and services I have activated maybe 50 BlackBerry 8530's on all plans and never been given the option to opt out of the $10 BIS charge. I have tried to activate doing what you wanted for other customers and was not able to. So if you are please keep me updated I am very curious to see, it would be awesome if you could.

The 10$ a month is manditory for all blackberry's it is not an optional feature, sux but thats the way it is. That's why i think the Rumor touch is the way to go.

Virgin Mobile charge a 10$ month manditory because RIM routes all of their data through the servers in Canada to make the connection more secure.
Some companies allow you to opt out of that but you will not get a enterprise activation code. Which allows you to access those servers so the internet will decrease in speed. Virgin Mobile does not give you the option.
you're wrong, at least for the 'beyond talk' $25 a month plan. here are my virgin mobile customer service emails:
__________________________________________________________________________
The message submitted by the user is:

is the $10 a month extra for blackberry on $25 a month 'beyond talk' web-based email, blackberry messenger and blackberry app world manditory or optional? if it's optional and i don't chose it, will the phone get internet?
Can i use a regular non-blackberry email, like @yahoo.com?
thanks

for beyond talk $25 a month, if i use a blackberry curve 8530 and chose to pay $10 a month extra for web-based email, blackberry messenger and blackberry app world. if i do this for only one month and buy/download a bunch of apps, will the apps still be usable on the phone if i stop paying the $10 a month extra? thanks

Thanks for contacting Virgin Mobile Customer Care

To answer your question yes, the application will still be usable on the phone if you stop paying the $10 a month extra.

__________________________________________________________________________

-Im a bout 99 percent sure that 'web-based email' just means a @blackberry email and there are at least google and yahoo mail that are easy and free already so who needs that?
-blackberry messanger is a chat program that i don't want

what i bolded and underlined is contradictory. one reply says i can and the other says i can't "do this for only one month and buy/download a bunch of apps, will the apps still be usable on the phone if i stop paying the $10 a month extra" gonna double check with them. not familiar with apps though and dunno if i even want any.

The BlackBerry comes with a 2gig sd card and it is $10 more a month because of the BIS ( Blackberry Internet Service ) If you dont need all the bells and whistles i suggest you go with the rumor touch although both are very reasonably priced for brand new phones your really in a win win situation.
it doesn't say $10 more a month for internet, just for stuff i don't want. it says for: web-based email, blackberry messenger and blackberry app world. waiting on email to see if this is manditory or optional . hope i could omit that and still use yahoo mail and if needed, buy only one month of this, download a bunch of apps and still keep them.
