Samsung is coming out with a a new Android handset called the Samsung Gem SCH-i100. Android 2.1 Eclair is the version that the Gem will run, so any hopes of it receiving a higher version of Android is obsolete.

The Verizon logo has appeared on the Samsung Gem telling us that Verizon will be the carrier. Price of the Samsung Gem SCH-i100 has not been announced, but considering that the handset does not contain the newest version of Android and is using an Android version that is 1 year old, Verizon may carry the phone for free on contract.

Features of the Samsung Gem will include: a 3.2 WQVGA touchscreen display, Swype virtual keyboard, social networking integration (via Samsung Hub), MicroSD card support, 3.2MP photo camera, and an 800MHz processor.
