Well seeing as how you are using both an Iphone and a Mac the most relevant question that could possibly be asked is this:
Why not just use iCloud? problem solved both now and in the future.

First please make sure you have installed iBooks app in your iphone. If you don’t have it yet you can go to the iTunes Store to download one and it will be automatically installed the next time you sync your iPhone to your computer. Open the PDF file in the iBooks app and now you can enjoy your epub ibooks. Beside, you can ask Google how to convert PDF to epub book and he will give you recommendation of useful converter and instructive articles. And you can refer to this article about how to convert pdf to epub on Mac.

You can take a look at SyncMate, it syncs contacts between Mac and iPhone for free (sync-mac.com/ios-sync.html)

iCloud requires iOS 5 on iPhone 3GS or later, iPod touch (3rd and 4th generation), iPad, or iPad 2; a Mac computer with OS X Lion; or a PC with Windows Vista or Windows 7 (Outlook 2007 or 2010 or an up-to-date browser is required for accessing email, contacts, and calendars). Some features require a Wi-Fi connection. Some features are not available in all countries. Access to some services is limited to 10 devices.

The contacts should be in the Address Book app on your Mac.

I'm pretty sure the sync function in iTunes works both ways, so when you sync your phone to your authorized account in itunes it will copy your contacts too.
