Hi everyone, first time poster here. My contract is up and I'm due for an upgrade and just not sure what the heck to get. I'm not really a gadget guy to begin with so I'm a little in over my head and could use some help.

I'm on AT&T and plan to stay with them because the majority of the people I talk to are AT&T so most of my talking time is under free mobile to mobile etc and I have racked up a TON of rollover minutes which also works out nicely.

Currently I'm on a super old data plan that does not work with smart phones and was a media bundle with 1000 texts and 5MB data for $15 (I barely use the interenet on my phone). I have decided to change my plan and split the text and data with 1000 text for $10 and 2GB Data for $25 so I can get a smart phone.

So heres where my questions come in.... Is a 4G capable phone really going to be better for me than a 3G phone?

I was thinking of going 4G since that looks to be where everything is headed and since I'll be locked in for 2 years etc. But AT&T only has 2 4G phones out right now, the HTC Inspire and Motorola Atrix and one about to come out 2nd Qtr the Samsung Infuse.

Between the two that are available now both seem to have some issues.

The HTC Inspire 4G battery life is pretty bad according to the reviews I've watched and the speaker phone isn't very good either. I use the speaker phone most of the time when I'm on the phone so thats an issue for me and if I have to charge the phone 1 or more times a day thats going to get annoying fast.

The Motorola Atrix 4G looks really nice but I've heard the UI is MotoBlur and it has lag issues according to reviews I've watched.

Then there's the Samsung Infuse 4G which isn't out yet and will be out in the next few months. It looks promising but without seeing actual reviews I don't know.

A 3G phone would probably open up alot of other options but I'm just not sure if I should lock myself in for 2 years to a phone thats old technology already.

Most of my use with the phone will be talk, text, checking and sending email and some light internet browsing. I'm not on facebook all the time I don't have (or want) Twitter so none of that stuff and I don't intend to download music to the phone because I have an ipod for that. Probably wont be downloading a bunch of apps either. I'd like the ability to do all of that, I just probably wont't use it all that much if that makes sense.

So, what would you guys recomend for me?
