I'm interested in connecting my Samsung to a microcontroller to have it send and receive SMS text messages. I know that at least one cell phone uses the mic jack for the input and output (Motorola c168i). Do most cell phones use pinouts on the connector for RX and TX, or can/do they use the mic jack too?

Secondly, does anyone have an idea how many GMS phones respond to AT commands via an external interface (like the mic jack or connector pins)? It was an old standard that apparently was common, but I don't know how many cell phones currently still have capability to externally interface and respond to AT commands.

Thanks for any insight or advice!
    Dave
