It's possible the one you got in Canada is either broke or just out of minutes. The phone number is assigned depending on the SIM.

Thanks John...I have used a sim card I got in Switzerland and everything you told me works. The Sim card bought in Canada (P/C mobile) says Sim card broke. Is it possible this card is broke or will it just not work in this phone...I understood you could get a card from any country as long as the phone is unlocked (which this one is). Also, how do I get a phone number assisgned? My daughter is still using the phone number she used when she had this phone....Thank you so much, Brenda

You'll need to unlock the phone to use a SIM from another provider. You can get a sim from a pre-paid service when you sign up for it.

Here are the steps to unlock the phone:

    1. If you have changed your phone password, change your password back to the default 8 zeros (00000000).
    2. Goto SETTINGS, SECURITY, then SIM LOCK and disable this before proceeding.
    3. Put a SIM card that is from a network other than the one your phone is locked to (I used a TMOBILE card from my buddy Darin)
    4. When Incorrect SIM (I got invalid card and there was a sim card graphic spinning) error comes up, type *#9998*3323#.
    5. White screen will appear with an exit option. Press the right softkey. (I ended up pushing the down key to get a menu)
    6. From the menu that appears, select the Malloc Fail option. This will reboot the phone and the normal service screens will appear.
    7. Type *0141# and then press the green call key. "Personalization" or "Personalized" will appear.
    8. Turn off your phone and put the original SIM back in.
    9. Turn on your phone. You will receive a prompt to enter a password.
    10. Type 8 zeros (00000000) (This is because the SIM LOCK Mentioned earlier gets switched back on)
    11. Completed. You have now unlocked your phone.

I have a samsung SGH-D807 that was on rogers plan. My daughter upgraded and gave this phone to me. I need a sim card for it. Can anyone tell me what sim cards will work with this phone in Canada and also in the USA. I would also need a phone number and pay as you go plan. Obviously new to this kind of thing so your help would be appreciated. Thank you
