On Verizon a data plan is mandatory on all smart phones. Once you call in to activate the phone on a line you will be forced to add a data package. The only way to have smartphone exclusion on your plan is to be grandfathered into it. This means that you had a smartphone before data plans became mandatory.

As far as I know you will need to get a data plan to get a smartphone. Just a suggestion, why don't you just get an unlocked phone which you can use with your current plan? Try looking at timtechs for unlocked phones.

I use a Verizon Family Plan. Does anybody know if I can get a Smartphone without subscribing to a data plan?
