That's correct. But since the phone is only GSM compatible it will only work with GSM network providers too.

Ive read somewhere about people unlocking an iphone 3g and using T-Mobile service. Do you think this would be possible in my situation and still allow me to keep the same number?

Most will allow you to keep (port) your number.
Check Net 10 and Straight talk, also I saw some great double ups on Trac phone minutes.

Where I travel to in Mendicino County in Nor Cal is a black spot for At&t. No service for about a 30 mile radius. Verizon and Sprint both have good coverage there. Also, I rarely get full coverage anywhere (I live in the Bay Area) with aTT.

Im canceling At&t, just need to know what are my options after I do that

Im an international student here in the States and currently have an iphone through my girlfriends At&t account.

I want to change to verizon because I live in California and travel frequently to Northern Cal where ATT coverage is pathetic.

I called into verizon, they said that because I dont have a social security number, I would have to pay a $400 deposit and an additional $299 for the iphone 4 32gb. Thats not really an option for me right now

Other possibility is that my girlfriend sets up the account in my name which I dont think is an option either.

Anyway...would I be better off, terminating my AT&T account and unlocking my 3GS 32GB iphone? (I think my termination fee is about $100)

That way could I still keep my number but transfer to someone like sprint? Or some other half-decent network?

    Any help appreciated!!
