Try to plug in and uplug earphones, what happens?

Try to use speaker, what happens?

i have a htc phone and on the screen a set of head appear and when someone
ring i cant hear them how do i get rid of the headphones symbol so i can hear people when they ring
i do not have head phones in the socket when this symbol comes on
