I'm not sure what you mean by "format" the battery. Do you mean let it go almost dead a couple times and charge it?

I change my phones like socks (that's what my friends say) so I have never had problems with the battery for too long but do all new phones still require that you format the battery ? I know old phones needed it but I thought things would change nowadays.
