Just a suggestion, if you're planning on getting a basic phone, you might not want to sign a contract. You can just purchase the phone outright. It will probably be less than $50 for a very basic phone.

Also, I understand you want to use Verizon Wireless' network, so you might be interested in Page Plus Cellular. You can use almost any Verizon Wireless phone on their service, it costs less than Verizon Wireless, and uses the same network. The only difference is roaming, it will cost money on Page Plus Cellular. Using Verizon Wireless' towers are at no additional charge though.

Thanks for the additional post. Well, I went to Verizon and the man told me that there was nothing the matter with my Samsung phone..that it was in an area which had bad reception.

I wonder if those reception boosters for automobiles work?
Never mind..response not required thanks all

My brother is the same as you. He just wants a phone that makes calls. He recently got the Samsung Convoy and he is pretty happy with it. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles and it is a good quality phone.

Since you're on Verizon you have to use a phone that was released by Verizon (no bringing your own phones to Verizon).

I would look at the LG Revere 2: Set Your Location

Hi. I am olde fashioned and want a 'no bells and whistles" phone which has excellent reception (important).

I am a Verizon wireless user, and have had , over the past couple of years, a Samsung knock, and a Samsung gusto

These two phones were mediocre at best. The gusto has gone totally whacky on me and will not receive calls at all, and goes into these strange modes of silence and will not receive most calls.

Is there a plain phone of any sort which I can use with Verizon ..I am not sure what unlocking means, but does it mean I purchase a phone which Verizon does not normally carry, and unlock it to be used by Verizon?

I need a new phone immediately..and a simple one. I do not even send text messages so my needs are simple. I just need good reception.
    Thanks
    Al
