What do you think about the quality of the touchscreen? Does it seem to be responsive?

Glad to hear that you've found the right smartphone for your needs!

Don't hesitate to ask away on the forums if you have any other questions regarding your fresh Samsung Brighside, or any other phone.

My daughter ended up getting me a Samsung Bright Side.
This phone is perfect for what I want in a cell phone.
1st off in the phone's address book I can associate a person's picture with their contact information.
It has touch screen and slides open to get a keyboard for texting and picture messages.
The camera has various settings like panorama, continuous shooting, self timer, light adjustments and other stuff I haven't figured out yet.
Even though it came with a charging piece to plug into a wall, it is not really necessary.
The wire plugs directly into USB on the side of a computer and charges while hooked up.
Pictures can be transferred back and forth thru the USB
When plugged to the computer it is really just a big flash drive.
Anyone looking for a cheap phone that does a lot without using the web-this is it.

    Hello merc68,

There's no problem with asking questions; this is a forum after all

If you wish to buy a phone as you've described directly from Verizon (and I believe that's what you wish since you've mentioned "free" -> on contract), then here are your current options.

    - The Pantech Jest 2 (free, on contract, after promo and online discounts are applied). It's a normal phone (not a smartphone) and it's currently the only phone on-sale at Verizon that features a QWERTY keyboard, as you've asked. Unfortunately, it does not have a touchscreen and since you've mentioned transferring pictures, it has only a 2 Megapixel camera (I'm not sure if that's an issue for you or not). I'm also not entirely sure about associating pictures with each contact in the address book (although this options should exist on most phones nowadays so I don't think it's an issue).

    - But since the Pantech Jest 2 is not entirely what you are looking for (no touch screen), you are left with two more options that feature QWERTY keyboards and are either free or cheap(est you can get). However, both these devices are smartphones, not regular phones, which means that in order buy them on-contract, your current contract will need to be converted into a "data" contract for smartphones, if it hasn't been converted already. (All smartphones require data plans / internet connections). This will get your monthly fee a bit higher.

    These two smartphones are:

    - Samsung Galaxy Stratosphere II ($49.99 after online discount is applied)

    - Pantech Marauder (Free after promo and online discounts are applied)

You can visit Verizon's website and learn more about these devices. You can find each one of them by using the search bar on the carrier's webpage.

    I hope this helped!
