    I. Disclaimer

Rooting a device always comes with risks - the warranty of your HTC First will be voided and the smartphone may even be bricked, so proceed at your own expense. We are not to be hold responsive for any damage that may come to it.

    II. Requirements

    1. A HTC First. Using this tutorial on any other smartphone will potentially brick the device.
    2. Your smartphone needs to be at least 60% to 80% charged in order to avoid battery blackout during the process.
    3. A Windows computer or laptop.
    4. HTC First USB driver for Windows – download and install it to your computer.
    5. Enable USB Debugging on your HTC First.
    6. You should also perform a backup of your media files and data prior to starting the rooting process.
    7. CWM Touch Recovery.
    8. Superuser-1.0.1.8-CWM.zip.
    9. Update-SuperSU-vq.25zip.

    III. Rooting the HTC First

    1. Unlock the HTC One bootloader. Go to the official HTC Dev website and follow the steps there to unlock your handset.
    2. Then connect your HTC First to your computer via the USB cable and transfer either the Superuser or SuperZu zip file to the root directories of your handset.
    3. In your computer, setup fastboot and then completely power off your handset.
    4. Press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys simultaneously to enter HBoot Mode.
    5. Using the Volume Up and Volume Down keys, navigate to Fastboot -> then use the Power key to confirm.
    6. Next you need to connect your HTC First to your PC.
    7. Download the CWM Touch Recovery under Download Section. Then rename CWM Recovery to recovery.img.
    8. On your computer, copy recovery.img to C:/fastboot folder.
    9. Open the Command Prompt window by clicking the Windows Logo and then typing CMD in the search box -> then tap Enter on your keyboard.
    10. In the Command Prompt window type fastboot erase cache.
    11. To flash the recovery.img file to your smartphone, type in fastboot flash recovery.img.
    12. Then, to power off your smartphone, press and hold the Power key.
    13. Press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys simultaneously to enter in HBoot Mode again.
    14. Using the Volume Up and Volume Down keys, navigate to Recovery -> then use the Power key to confirm.
    15. While in the Recovery home menu, select to install zip from sdcard -> select choose zip from internal sdcard and select either Superuser-1.0.1.8-CWM.zip or UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.25.zip -> then click Yes and then select reboot system now.
    16. Your HTC First will not reboot and the root should be installed on it.
    17. Feel free to check your root status by downloading a root checker.
