Factory Resetting Your HTC 8X via Software

By factory resetting (also known as a master reset) your smartphone, all data stored on the device, 3rd party applications included will be lost. For this reason, it’s very important to back up your device prior to performing a factory reset. To learn how to back up your device, check out the How-To: Back up and Restore Your HTC 8XT.
The factory reset should be used only as a last resort if all other troubleshooting steps have been failed to provide a solution or if you device to give/sell the handset to another person.

    1. From the Start screen, scroll to and touch the Menu arrow.
    2. Then scroll down and tap Settings.
    3. Touch about and select reset your phone.
    4. Read the WARNING and if you agree with it, tap yes.
    5. Tap yes again.
    6. Your HTC 8XT will now completely reset and restart.

Factory Resetting Your HTC 8XT via Hardware Keys

Just like in the case of a factory reset via software, all the data will be wiped off your smartphone, so it’s highly recommended to back up your device prior to hard resetting it.
The hardware factory reset is particularly useful in case your device is completely unresponsive.

    1. Turn your HTC 8XT Off.
    2. Then press and hold the Volume down button.
    3. While pressing the Volume down button, also press and hold the Power button.
    4. You should then see an exclamation mark.
    5. When the exclamation mark appears on the screen, continue holding the Volume Down button, but release the Power key.
    6. The exclamation mark will appear a second time. When that happens, release the Volume Down button as well.
    7. Then press the following buttons in this exact order: Volume Up, Volume Down, Power, and Volume Down.
    8. Your HTC 8XT should now reset and the HTC logo will appear on the screen.
    9. While the handset resets, it will display two turning gears.
    10. Your HTC 8XT will now completely reset and restart.

Performing a Factory Reset Using Find My Phone

If you lost your HTC 8XT and you can't physically recover it, you can still reset it remotely using the Find My Phone service.

However, in order to use the For the Find My Phone service, you must have enabled Find My Phone in the phone settings, Microsoft account needs to be set up on the phone, and the device must be on and have a cellular network signal. If all these steps have been fulfilled prior to losing your device, follow the next steps to reset it.

    1. From any computer, open a Web browser.
    2. Then go to windowsphone.com.
    3. Log in with your primary Microsoft account.
    4. Then mouse over Windows Phone below your name -> click Find My Phone.
    5. Click Erase.
    6. Click the I'm sure! Please erase my phone now box and click Erase once more.
