The HTC really surprised me when it was compared with some of the leading smart phones of today. It is because of this that I think it deserves to be compared with the newly announced LG G2. HTC is known to have made some exceptional smart phones in the past and the HTC One did quite well against the Samsung Galaxy S4, the Nokia Lumia 928, the Apple iPhone 5 and even the Sony Xperia Z. But the LG G2 has been changing everyone’s definition of a top end smart phone ever since its release and no other smart phone has even come close to matching up to it. What do you think will happen when I compare both these excellent smart phones? Read on to find out...

    Size and weight

In terms of size, the HTC One measures 137.4 x 68.2 x 9.3 mm while the LG G2 measures 138.5 x 70.9 x 8.9 mm. There is very little to differentiate between both these smart phones and I can even go out on a limb here and say that you won’t really notice much of a difference between both smart phones unless you actually measure them. There is nothing that sets both these smart phones apart in terms of weight with both weighing in at 143 g. Considering how close both these smart phones are to each other, how do I go about scoring this point?

I will award it to the LG G2 because it has a larger display.

    (LG G2 - One / HTC One - Zero)

    Display

This is one point where both these smart phones are quite exceptional. The LG G2 comes with a 5.2” IPS LCD touch screen while the HTC One comes with a 4.7” S-LCD3 touch screen. Definitely a bigger smart phone made by LG but better technology in the HTC One. HTC is far ahead in terms of pixel density though with the HTC One having 468 ppi while the LG G2 has 423 ppi. HTC is quite well known for their marvelous touch screens and nothing seems to have changed here. The touch screen on the HTC One is out right fabulous.

This point is only going to one manufacturer and that is HTC.

    Memory & Storage

While the LG G2 comes in 2 versions, 16 or 32 GB the HTC One also comes in 2 versions, 32 or 64 GB. Neither allow memory expansion though which is a big letdown. Still I have never been able to use more than 16 GB on a smart phone and I don’t think it should cause too much trouble although memory expansion would have been a welcome addition to either smart phone. That being said, both these smart phones comes with 2 GB of RAM which means that you can expect apps to rum seamlessly and very little lag while switching between programs.

This one is going to be a draw.

    (LG G2 - One / HTC One - One)

    Camera

This is one point where the HTC One always suffers. The point is almost decided as soon as you hear that the HTC One comes with a 4 MP camera. That is nothing as compared to the 13 MP camera on the LG G2. On the bright side, the HTC One does offer full HD video recording at 60 fps which is just the same as the LG G2. Even the front camera on the HTC One is up to the mark at 2.1 MP which is exactly the same as the front camera on the LG G2. Both front cameras allow full HD video recording as well.

It is really unfortunate that such a good smart phone has to lose this point and can’t even put up a fight. The point definitely goes to the LG G2.

    (LG G2 - Two / HTC One - One)

    OS & Performance

Both these smart phones are running on the latest Android operating system 4.2.2 JellyBean which means that you can rest assured you will have one of the best operating systems around today no matter which smart phone you choose. But the technology in the LG G2 is far ahead of even the HTC One. It comes with a Quad Core, 2260 MHz, Krait 400 processor and Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 chip which is simply the next generation of smart phone hardware. On the other hand, the HTC One comes with a Quad Core, 1700 MHz, Krait 300 processor and Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 APQ8064T chip. But this doesn’t mean that the HTC One comes second in this race. It is a simple fact with technology that the new will always replace the old.

As with all other comparisons the LG G2 has been part of so far, it picks up this point hook, line and sinker.

    (LG G2 - Three / HTC One - One)

    Battery

The HTC One comes with a sturdy 2,300 mAh battery that has a stand by time of almost 21 days. The only problem is that 20+ days of standby time is soon becoming the standard among top level smart phones. I’m guessing that is why the LG G2 comes with a huge 3,000 mAh battery. There isn’t any information available regarding the stand by time of this smart phone but I’m sure it is going to be excellent.

This point is a draw simply because of lack of information on the battery life of the LG G2.

    (LG G2 - Three / HTC One - One)

    Price

The LG G2 is rumored to cost something between $ 600 and $ 630 free of contract which, if true, is absolutely unbelievable. I mean who wouldn’t buy a smart phone that has some industry leading technology in it. The HTC One is a little more expensive though at $ 640 free of contract and even though this is just a marginal amount you will have to think twice when it comes to the HTC One considering the fact that it just has a 4 MP camera.

I am going to call this one a draw as well although anyone who regularly uses his/her smart phone camera would never buy the HTC One.

    (LG G2 - Three / HTC One - One)

    Conclusion

The score at the end of this comparison is three points to one in favor of the LG G2. The only point the HTC One managed to pick up is for its outstanding display while the LG G2 picked up points for size, camera and technology. What do you think about both these smart phones? Would you go for the more popular HTC One or would you give LG a chance and go for the LG G2?
