If a phone was carrier locked and it didn't have a sim card in it I wouldn't be able to navigate the workings of the phone would I ?

I would just get the card and pop it in. If you get an error message then it needs to be unlocked (which one of the vendors on this site can help you with). If not then you're all good.

See that's what I was under the impression of but I called customer service because I was bored and they said I had to have
It unlocked. I have not had good luck with their customer service before and Im almost positive the guy didn't understand my
question no matter how many ways I tried to explain it LOL. Thanks for your reply

You should be able to just get an AT&T Straight Talk sim without unlocking the phone. See here: Choose Your Phone

Or can I just buy the straight talk sim card?

If I want to use a AT&T galaxy note 1 on straight talk do I need to unlock it? Thanks in advanced
