XDA developers as well as DesignGears and Chainfire have created the "Root de la Vega" utility in order to root the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

Before proceeding, you should know that this rooting method will still not give you the ability to flash any custom ROMs, kernels, recovery images or any type of customization files. This is because, while root can be achieved, the bootloader will remain locked.

It's also Very Important to remember that, applying any future Android OTA updates after rooting may result in loss of root and other problems.

Also, during the rooting process the system partition and internal storage will be completely deleted. If you have a microSD card, that will be wiped as well.

IMPORTANT NOTES AND PREREQUISITES – MUST READ!!!

Before proceeding with the rooting, you need to read every bullet point below very carefully.

    • This rooting method is designed specifically for the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3 bearing the model number (SM-N900T). Do not attempt to root any other Note 3 variant by following this guide. If you have the AT&T variant, follow this link for instructions. If you own the Verizon Note 3, please follow this link for instructions on how to apply Root de la Vega.
    • Root de la Vega will install a custom pre-rooted Note 3 firmware that is based on Android 4.3
    • The Bootloader will remain locked and you won't be able to apply custom ROMs, kernels or recovery images
    • Using this root guide, the warranty of your smartphone should not be voided. KNOX Flags will not be tripped in the process, and the value should remain "0x0"
    • WARNING! Create a backup for important data. This method will wipe everything on your smartphone. Before proceeding remove the microSD card too. You can try the "Helium" tool to backup data.
    • You need to download and install the latest Samsung USB Drivers on your computer. Visit this link. If you do not install the drivers, the Odin tool might not recognize your smartphone, and the rooting process will not be successful
    • Disable all the antivirus / security programs on your computer. These programs can interfere with the rooting process
    • Disable or uninstall Samsung KIES from your computer, as this software can interfere with the rooting process
    • Enable "USB Debugging" before proceeding. To do so, you need to make the "Developer Options" menu visible. Go to "Settings" > "About Device" and tap the "Build Number" field until the "Developer mode has been enabled" message appears. Now go back to the "Settings" menu, tap "Developer options" and enable "USB Debugging"
    • Make sure that your battery is at least 70% full. It is very important that your smartphone does not discharge completely during the rooting process
    • This tutorial is for advanced users that are at least familiar with what rooting implies. If you brick / damage your phone during this process, you cannot hold the developers or anyone else responsible.

Rooting the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3 LTE (SM-N900T)

    1. Download the "N900TUVUBMI7_VEGA.tar.md5" file (image) by visiting this link
    2. Download the "N900TTMBBMI7_CSC.tar.md5" image file by visiting this link
    3. Download the "Root_de_la_Vega.7z" archive by visiting this link
      • After downloading the 7z archive, extract its contents and save the folder on your desktop
      • The 7z archive should contain the following: "root_de_la_vega.zip"; "Odin3 v3.09 executable" and an "Odin3.ini" file. The ini file might not be visible if the "hidden folders" option in Windows is enabled
    4. Power off your smartphone
    5. Reboot your smartphone in "Download Mode". To do this, press and hold the "Volume Down", "Home" and "Power" buttons at the same time. Release the buttons when the "Warning!" logo appears. Press the "Volume up" button to confirm "Download Mode"
    6. Start "Odin 3 v3.09" on your computer. This executable is found in the folder created at step 3
    7. Connect your T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3 to your computer using the USB cable. Wait for Odin to detect the device. The message "Added!!" should be on the screen.
      • NOTE: if Odin does not recognize your device successfully, then you need to install the latest Samsung USB drivers. (Check the bullet points above)
    8. In Odin, click the "AP" button and load the "N900TUVUBMI7_VEGA.tar.md5" file
    9. Click the "CSC" button and load the "N900TTMBBMI7_CSC.tar.md5" file
      • Make sure that the Re-Partition option is disabled, and that the "Auto Reboot" and "F Reset Time" options are enabled
      • Do not change any other settings. Leave them to default values
    10. Click the "START" button to begin the flash process. Wait until the files are installed and Odin says "PASS" in a green box
    11. After the Note 3 is rooted, it will automatically reboot in normal mode. Leave it connected to your computer
    12. On your computer, open the folder created at step 3 and extract the contents of the "Root_de_la_vega.zip" archive. You should obtain two files:
      • a "root files" folder
      • a "root_de_la_vega.sh" file
    13. Copy these two files and paste them on your phone's root partition. Do not create any new folders in the root partition. Just paste the files there as they are
    14. Once the files are copied, reboot your smartphone
    15. After the reboot process is complete, access the root folder from your computer, and delete the "root files" folder and the "root_de_la_vega.sh" file. Yes, these are the files that you have just copied. Delete them
    16. After deleting the files, restart your smartphone once again. This should result in a successful root
    17. Once the smartphone boots in normal mode, disconnect it from your computer
    18. You can download and install the "Root Checker Basic" application from the Google Play Store in order to see if the root has been applied successfully.
    19. You can now reinsert your microSD card. The root process is complete. Congratulations!
