The LG G2 is LG's latest flagship phone, which means that the official Android 4.4 KitKat update should arrive sometime in the future. Unfortunately, it may take some time before AT&T's LG G2 will receive the official KitKat update. On the bright side, you can always rely on the developer community to provide solutions. CyanogenMod has recently started launching CM 11 nightly builds for the AT&T LG G2, and this guide will teach you how you can install the CM 11 custom ROM on your device.

Note that, while this is an official CyanogenMod release, it's also a nightly build, meaning that it will contain bugs. Fortunately, CM releases "nightlies" on a daily basis, and that means that you can get rid of potential bugs in a very timely manner.

    IMPORTANT – READ BEFORE PROCEEDING:

    • This guide has been designed specifically for the AT&T LG G2 bearing the model number "D800". Don't attempt to apply this guide on any other smartphone or LG G2 variant, as it may brick your phone
    • In order to apply this guide, you will need to have a rooted AT&T LG G2 running the latest version of CWM or TWRP recovery. (Instructions for both recovery images are given below)
    • Unless your AT&T LG G2 already runs on an earlier CM 11 nightly build, you will need to perform a factory reset. As such, you should create backups before proceeding
    • You can use the "Helium" app to backup app data
    • The "APN Settings Backup & Restore" app allows you to backup your APN Internet settings
    • In order to backup text messages, you can use the "SMS backup & restore" application
    • Your contacts should be backed up / synced with your Gmail account
    • This guide contains information on how to create a NANDROID backup
    • Before proceeding, you'll need to enable "USB Debugging". To do so, go to "Settings" > "About phone" and tap "Build Number" until you are notified that you now have access to the developer tools. Then, go back to "Settings", tap "Developer Options" which now should be visible, and enable "USB Debugging"
    • Your smartphone needs to have at least 60-70% battery life before proceeding. It's important that your device doesn't run out of battery during the installation process
    • This is a guide for advanced users. If you brick your device, damage it or if you lose important data, you cannot hold the developers or anyone else responsible
    • Don't skip any steps!

    Entering Recovery Mode:

IMPORTANT: you shouldn't follow this guide at this point. This is a guide that allows you to reboot your device in Recovery mode (whether you use CWM or TWRP), and you will refer to this guide a bit later during the installation process

    1. Visit the Play Store and download the "Quick Boot" tool
    2. After you've installed the app, run it
    3. From the menu, select "Recovery"
    4. Your AT&T LG G2 will now reboot in recovery mode

AT&T LG G2: Installing Android 4.4 CM 11 Nightly – CWM Recovery Method:

    1. Download the latest CM 11 nightly build available by visiting this link
    2. The ROM does not include Google apps, so you'll need to download the Gapps zip package from this link
    3. Connect your LG G2 to your computer via USB
    4. Copy both zip files onto your phone's storage. Don't unzip the files!
    5. After you've transferred the zips, disconnect your smartphone from your PC
    6. Reboot your AT&T LG G2 in recovery mode (refer to the guide above)
    7. In CWM recovery, select "backup & restore" to create a NANDROID backup. This will allow you to later on return to your current ROM
    8. Select "data wipeout / factory reset", "Wipe cache" and "dalvik cache". NOTE: you can skip this step if your AT&T LG G2 already runs on an earlier version of CM 11 nightly
    9. Now, select "Install zip from SD card" and then select "choose zip from SD card"
    10. Browse for the CM 11 zip downloaded at step 1, and flash it on your device
    11. Do the same with the Gapps zip. Select "Install zip from SD card" and browse for it
    12. Once both zip files have been flashed, select "+++Go Back+++" and then select "Reboot system now". NOTE: After the flashing process, this first reboot in normal mode may take a while. If the process is not finished after 10 minutes, or if your device is stuck in a boot loop, you need to restart the whole process without skipping any steps

NOTE: if you want to return to your previous ROM, you can use the NANDROID backup in order to do so. Simply reboot in CWM recovery and select "backup & restore"

AT&T LG G2: Installing Android 4.4 CM 11 Nightly – TWRP Recovery Method:

    1. Download the latest available CM 11 nightly build from this link
    2. Download the Gapps package from this link
    3. Connect your AT&T LG G2 to your computer via USB, and copy both zip files onto the device's storage. Don't unzip the files!
    4. Disconnect your LG G2 and reboot it in recovery mode (refer to the guide above in order to do so)
    5. In the TWRP recovery menu select "Backup" in order to create a NANDROID backup. This will create a restore point of your current ROM
    6. After the backup, select "Wipe", go to "Advanced" and "Wipe cache" as well as "Dalvik cache". Then, swipe the "Swip to Wipe" button. NOTE: this step can be skipped if your AT&T LG G2 already runs on an earlier CM 11 nightly build
    7. Now go back to the recovery menu and select "Install"
    8. Browse for the CM 11 zip file downloaded at step 1 and flash it
    9. Select "Install" again and browse for the Gapps zip file
    10. After both files have been flashed, return to the recovery menu and select "Reboot". NOTE: the first reboot in normal mode can take several minutes to complete. Be patient and don't press any buttons. If the process takes longer than 10 minutes, or if the device is boot looping, then you need to redo the whole process from the top, without skipping any steps. Make sure you wipe the cache and reset the device.

NOTE: if you wish to return to your previous ROM, you can do so by rebooting in TWRP recovery, and selecting "Restore"
