I've never come across a phone and plan that doesn't have some kind of texting included. The differences is how they charge for the texting.

I would definitely check out Straight Talk as a starting point.

Thank you. Pointed me in the right direction to examine the text + voice ONLY phone market. Now I need to find the lowest cost pre-paid card for voice + text.

My husband only uses a couple of minutes per month . We just got him the samsung galaxy discover prepaid phone for christmas on Bell network . We got it at best buy paid $59.00 for it and got a $100.00 card on the phone . Its good for 1 year . The prepaid plan comes with texting , voice messaging and you can add dada for $10.00 a month . The calls are 30 cents each and so are the texts . Hope this helps

    Mr Tavenger:

I am trying to help my brother who has a limited budget.

He currently adds minutes to his voice only phone using T-Mobile pre-paid calling cards ($50 for 400 minutes).

How would I search for an inexpensive phone that features texting capability and voice phone calls?

Thank you for taking your time to read my post!

    Regards,

    Inquiring

A lot of the prepaid services count a text as a minute or point. All the major carriers have prepaid versions as well as companies like Virgin Mobile, Metro PCS, and Straight Talk/Net10.

I need a cell phone that allows me to buy monthly voice minutes but also has texting capability. I dont want to buy a "plan" or go to a contract.
Is there any cell phone company or service provider that offers such a phone that I can buy voice and text using a pre-paid or "pay as you go" card?
I could get by with 200 voice minutes a month but Id like to text also.
Thanks for any ideas or brainstorms!
