While Android 4.4 is the newest mobile OS from Google, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is not going to receive this update very soon. The good news however, is that while you wait for KitKat, Samsung has now started releasing Android 4.3 on the European Galaxy Note 2, bearing the model number N7100.

Indeed, Sammy has now launched Android 4.3 JB (XXUEMK9 firmware) on the Exynos-equipped Note 2, and the update is being rolled-out over the air, even as we speak. But as with any major OTA release, it may take a while before every Note 2 out there will enjoy this new OS. The package is being released in stages, so while some Note 2 owners might've been able to download the new firmware, others have not.

If you're part of the latter category, then fret not. This is a guide that will allow you to manually install the official Android 4.3 release on the Note 2 N7100.

IMPORTANT – READ BEFORE PROCEEDING:

• This guide has been specifically designed for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 N7100. Do not attempt to apply this guide to any other devices or Note 2 variants. While this is an official release from Samsung, the update / guide will only work on the Note 2 N7100
• This guide does not require you to have a rooted smartphone. However, if you do have a rooted Note 2, you will lose root access after applying this update
• In order to complete this you will need to use the Odin tool
• You must have access to a Windows computer / notebook
• It's recommended that you disable any security tools that you may have on your computer, such as antimalware, antivirus, firewall software etc. These security tools may interfere with the installation process
• It's crucial that your smartphone does not remain out of battery during the installation process. Make sure that the battery is at least 60-70% full before proceeding
• You should enable USB Debugging before starting the installation process. Press "Menu" while on the home screen, tap "Settings" > "Applications" > "Development" and enable "USB Debugging"
• IMPORTANT: While this is an official update, using Odin may result in loss of personal data. With that in mind, it's recommended that you backup any important data before proceeding, such your contacts, text messages, apps, call logs and the EFS folder
• Make sure you have the latest Samsung Galaxy Note 2 drivers installed on your computer
• This is an advanced guide. You can't hold Samsung or anyone else responsible, in case something goes wrong and you brick / damage your phone, or if you lose important data

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (N7100): Install Android 4.3 Jelly Bean – Official Release (XXUEMK9 Firmware):

• Download the necessary Android 4.3 file from this link
• Save the package on your desktop, and unzip it
• Download the Odin tool and install it on your computer
• If necessary, install the Galaxy Note 2 drivers on your computer, using Samsung KIES
• Launch the Odin tool
• Power off your smartphone and reboot it in download mode. To do so, press and hold the "Volume down", "Home" and "Power" buttons at the same time
• Now, connect your smartphone to your PC using the USB cable
• With Odin open, the tool should now recognize your device. If everything works as intended, then you should see the "added" message in Odin, and the "ID:COM" section should turn blue or yellow
  
  • If this fails, then you'll need to disconnect your device, close Odin and reinstall the drivers for your device. Then, restart the guide from the top
• Select "PDA" and browse for, and select the Android 4.3 update file from where you have unzipped it (on your desktop)
• Don't change any settings in Odin, and click "Start". This will start the installation process for Android 4.3 on your Note 2 N7100. Keep in mind that this process may take a while, so be patient and don't press any buttons
• Once the process is complete, the "ID:COM" section in Odin should turn green, and you should also see the "pass" message on-screen
• You can now disconnect your smartphone from your computer, and reboot your Note 2

TROUBLESHOOTING:

• In certain situations, your smartphone might not reboot, or it might be stuck in a boot loop. If this is the case, then you'll need to factory reset your smartphone and try again, with the memory cleaned up. To do so, boot in recovery mode by pressing and holding the "Volume down", "Power" and "Home" buttons, and select "wipe data factory reset", as well as "wipe cache partition". Select "reboot system now" from the main recovery menu and see how it goes.
• Another issue that you may encounter is that Odin freezing up. If that happens, force restart your smartphone, reinstall the appropriate Samsung drivers on your computer and reboot your smartphone in download mode. Then, run Odin and repeat the Installation steps above
