Clearing the Cache Partition:

Before master resetting your smartphone, it's a good idea to clear the cache partition first. By doing so, you might fix the smartphone's potential issues without losing important data stored on the internal memory. To wipe the Cache Partition:

1. Power off the smartphone
2. Press and hold the "Volume Up", "Home" and "Power" buttons at the same time
3. Keep holding the buttons until the phone vibrates. Once that happens, release the "Power" button but continue pressing "Volume Up" and "Home"
4. Once the "Android System Recovery" screen appears, release the other two keys as well
5. In the menu, press "Volume Down" and highlight "wipe cache partition"
6. Press the "Power" button to select the option
7. Your phone will wipe the partition and it will reboot in normal mode

Master Resetting From the Settings Menu:

WARNING! Master resetting a device will result in the deletion of personal data stored on your smartphone's internal memory, including ringtones, apps, contacts, downloaded content and more. Data stored on the SIM or SD card will not be deleted.

1. If necessary, back up the data stored on your phone's memory
2. Press the "Menu" button while on the home screen
3. Tap "Settings"
4. Access the "Accounts" tab
5. Tap "Backup and reset"
6. Optionally, clear the check boxes associated with "Automatic restore" and "Back up my data"
7. Tap "Factory data reset" > "Reset device"
8. In case the screen lock is enabled, type in the PIN or password and tap "Continue"
9. Tap "Delete all" to confirm"

Master Resetting Using Hardware Keys:

If you're having trouble applying a factory reset through the settings menu, then you can still master reset your smartphone using the hardware buttons.

WARNING! Applying a factory reset will result in loss of data located on the phone's internal storage, including downloaded content, apps, contacts, custom ringtones and media files. However, content stored on the SIM or SD card will not be affected.

1. If necessary, back up your data
2. Power off the smartphone
3. Press and hold the "Volume Up", "Home" and "Power" keys at the same time
4. Keep holding the buttons until the phone vibrates once. When that happens, release the "Power" button
5. When the "Android System Recovery" screen appears, release the "Home" and "Volume Up" buttons as well
6. Press the "Volume down" button until you highlight "wipe data / factory reset"
7. Press "Power" to select the option
8. Use the volume buttons to highlight "delete all user data"
9. Press "Power" to confirm and master reset your device
10. When the "Reboot system now" option is highlighted, press the "Power" key once more to reboot your device in normal mode

Enabling Safe Mode:

Safe mode is a great way to get rid of third party applications that may cause issues and would otherwise prevent you from uninstalling them. In safe mode, all third party apps are disabled. To enable safe mode and uninstall an app:

1. With your smartphone turned off, press and hold "Power"
2. Release the "Power" button when the "Samsung Galaxy" screen appears, and immediately press and hold "Volume down" instead
3. Keep holding the "Volume down" button until the smartphone finishes restarting
4. A "Safe mode" message should appear in the bottom-left corner of the screen. When this happens, you can release the volume button
5. To uninstall an app, press the "Menu" button while on the home screen
6. Tap "Settings"
7. Go to the "More" tab
8. Tap "Application manager"
9. Swipe to the "Downloaded" screen
10. Select the application that causes issues
11. Tap "Uninstall" > "OK"
12. To exit safe mode, press and hold the "Power" button and then tap "Restart"
