    Enabling Power Saving Mode:

    You can enable Power Saving Mode in order to limit the smartphone's functions and increase battery life. To do so:

    1. Tap the "Apps" icon while on the home screen
    2. Tap "Settings" > "Power saving"
    3. Touch "Power saving mode"
    4. Drag the "Power saving mode" switch to the right to enable the feature
    5. You can enable or disable various features to customize how power saving mode works, such as:
      • Restrict performance: disables various features to increase battery life, such as turning off "Recent apps" ad disabling the "Back" button's backlight
      • Block background data: prevents application that run in the background from using the mobile data connection
      • Greyscale mode: changes the color scheme to grey tones. AMOLED displays require less energy when they don't display bright / vivid colors

    Enabling and Managing Ultra Power Saving Mode:

    Samsung has added a new battery feature on the SGS5, called "Ultra power saving mode". This mode increases battery life by:

    • Displaying everything in greyscale
    • Deactivates the data connection when the screen is turned off
    • Disables Bluetooth and Wi-Fi features
    • Limits access to various apps

    To enable and manage Ultra power saving mode:

    1. Open the apps drawer
    2. Tap "Settings" > "Power saving"
    3. Tap "Ultra power saving mode" and drag the switch associated with this feature, to the right
    4. You can add an application to the home screen by pressing "+". To remove an app, tap "Menu" > "Remove" > select the app and tap "-" > "OK"
    5. You can change the mode's sound settings and network connectivity features by going to "Menu" > "Settings"
    6. To disable this feature, tap "Menu" > "Disable ultra power saving mode"

    Lowering the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

    1. Tap the "Apps" icon from the home screen
    2. Go to "Settings"
    3. Tap "Display" > "Brightness"
    4. If necessary, clear the auto brightness check box
    5. Drag the brightness slider to the left, and set it to a lower level
    6. Tap "Back" and tap "Screen timeout"
    7. Select a lower timeout value

    Disabling Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and HotSpot:

    1. Tap "Apps" while on the home screen
    2. Tap "Settings"
    3. Under "Connections", tap "Wi-Fi" and drag the Wi-Fi switch to the left
    4. Return to the "Settings" menu and tap "Bluetooth", then drag the switch to the left
    5. From the "Settings" menu, tap "Tethering and mobile hotspot" and disable the feature
    6. Press "Back" to return to the "Settings" menu, and tap "Location"
    7. Drag the "Location" switch to the left to disable GPS

    Disabling Background Data and Adjusting Sync Settings:

    1. While on the home screen, tap "Apps"
    2. Tap "Settings" > "Data usage"
    3. Press the "Menu" icon and tap "Restrict background data" to prevent your smartphone from syncing in the background
    4. Tap "Auto sync data" to deactivate auto syncing. To adjust more sync settings for a specific account, you can go to "Settings" > "Accounts" > Select an account

    Minimizing the Use of Third Party Apps:

    1. From the home screen, tap "Apps"
    2. Tap "Settings"
    3. Tap "Application manager"
    4. Browse for the desired app and tap it
    5. Tap "Disable" to turn off the app, or tap "Uninstall" > "OK" to completely remove the app and tap

    Disabling 4G Connectivity:

    1. Open the apps drawer
    2. Tap "Settings" > "More networks"
    3. Tap "Mobile networks" > "Network mode"
    4. Select the desired (non-4G) network type
    5. Return to the home screen

    Keeping Your phone Up to Date:

    NOTE: the following steps can have a positive impact on your battery life only if Samsung has launched a new software update that improves your phone's battery power management. Otherwise, following the steps below will have no effect.

    1. From the home screen, tap "Apps"
    2. Open "Settings"
    3. Tap "About device" > "Software update"
    4. If an update is available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply it. Otherwise, return to the home screen
