    Which mobile you are using?

In 4 weeks he spent ($700 +) It took his breath away. (Mine too !)
    Telstra coverage is the best.
I know of others who have similar, horrific experiences.
    But only on postpaid.

My wife and I use Amaysim as providor. Amaysim only do mobile service.
    - they use the "Optus" as their carrier, Optus coverage is a close second to Telstra.
    - Vodaphone are woeful. As dinosaurs we only use our mobiles for phone calls and SMS.
That seems like as good a recommendation as any. Even
more so when SMS and calls are all that are planned. Any
data use will be on the notebook, down at McMalnutrition
    or like free WiFi provider.

How long do you plan to be here ?
Not for me. It's my Dad (93) with my sister along as
support person. I've lent them an old GMS phone of
mine, for the trip. Well, the phone is brand new! But it
    is old technology.

    Thanks for the tips.

    Hi PerryNZ,

My brother was in OZ recentrly from USA.
He made the mistake of getting a prepaid from Telstra. He used it for web and GPS street directory.

For a quick visit to Oz, (Cairns) carrying
a GSM phone, who do you recommend
to buy a SIM card from, bawldiggle?

Limited use anticipated: a few local calls
and a few internetional SMS messages
    is about the likely use..

We are a bit light on the ground for decent phone forums in OZ.
Population is small at 22 million.

We call our cell-phones "mobiles" ... we are odd like that.
Up until about xx years ago we had one federal government owned phone carrier "Telstra"
    ... and everything was $$$$$$.

Now we have many carriers all jostling for a market share, and thankfully prices have become more realistic/affordable.
    - I can phone my brother in Massachusetts for 6c/minute on my cell/mobile. (cheaper than landline)

As a dinosaur (b.1945) my reptilian brain cells are crammed with useless information from the dark ages.
