    Data Back Up

    Backing Up Apps:

    1. Tap "Apps" while on the home screen
    2. Access "Settings" and swipe to "Backup and reset"
    3. In order to back up apps, you need to be logged in to a Google account. To add one tap "HTC Account" > "Add account"
    4. If necessary, mark the check boxes next to "Backup my data" and "Backup accounts"

    Backing Up Contacts:

    1. Launch the "People" app
    2. Go to the "People" tab and press "Menu"
    3. Tap "Manage contacts" > "Import / Export contacts"
    4. Tap "Export to phone storage"
    5. Select an account if necessary and tap "OK"

    Backing Up Media Files on a Mac or Windows Computer:

    1. Connect the HTC Desire 820 to your computer using the USB cable
    2. On a Windows PC in the AutoPlay window, click "Open device to view files using Windows Explorer". On a Mac, the phone's drive will appear on the desktop
    3. Access the phone's storage and go to the files you want to back up
    4. Copy the desired files and paste them on your computer's HDD
    5. Once the transfer is done, click "Safely Remove Hardware" (on Windows) from the system tray and "eject". On a Mac, drag the phone's storage icon from the desktop into the "Trash / Eject" bin
    6. It's now safe to disconnect your smartphone from the computer

    Restoring Data

    Restore App Data:

    1. Tap "Apps" from the home screen
    2. Tap "Settings" and go to "Accounts & sync"
    3. Press "Menu" and tap "Sync all"

    Restore Contacts from Storage:

    1. Open the "People" application
    2. From the "People" tab, press "Menu"
    3. Tap "Manage contacts" > "Import / Export contacts"
    4. Tap "Import from phone storage"
    5. Select the type of account you want to use for restoring contacts

    Restoring Media Files from a Computer:

    1. Connect the HTC Desire 820 to your Windows PC or Mac
    2. On a Windows PC, click to browse the phone's files and folders from the AutoPlay window. On a Mac, access the phone's storage drive from the desktop
    3. Open a separate explorer or file finder window, locate the backed up files on your computer's HDD
    4. Copy the files from the PC, and paste them on your smartphone's storage
    5. Once the transfer is complete, click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon located in the system tray and "Eject" the smartphone (on a Windows). If using a Mac, drag the phone's virtual drive and drop it in the "Trash Can" icon
    6. Safely disconnect your smartphone from the computer and you're all done
