Insert the SD Card:

1. Turn off your smartphone and remove the back cover
2. The SD card is on top of the SIM card slot
3. Insert the SD card (after a SIM is inserted) with the gold contacts facing down (as seen in the image below)
4. Push the SD card into its slot and replace the back cover

Checking the Amount of Space on the SD Card:

1. Tap "Apps" while on the home screen
2. Go to "Settings"
3. Scroll to "System" and tap "Storage"
4. The "Available space" value can be viewed under "SD card"

Formatting the SD Card:

WARNING! Formatting the SD card will result in the deletion of all data stored on it. Before proceeding, it's recommended that you create backups

1. From the home screen, tap "Apps"
2. Go to "Settings" and swipe to "System"
3. Tap "Storage"
4. Swipe to "SD card" and tap "Format SD card"
5. Tap "Format SD Card" again to confirm
6. Press "Delete all"

Opening or Deleting Files on the SD Card

Using a Windows Computer:

1. Connect your Galaxy S5 LTE-A to your PC via USB
2. Swipe the "Notification" bar down and tap "USB connected"
3. Tap "Connect USB storage"
4. From the AutoPlay window on your computer, click "Open folder to view files"
5. Open the SD card storage by double-clicking the "Card" drive
6. Perform the desired actions (open files or delete them)
7. When you're done, tap "Disconnect storage from PC" and disconnect your smartphone from the USB

Using a Mac Computer:

NOTE: The first 3 steps should be skipped if Samsung Kies is already installed on your Mac

1. Launch the Internet browser on your Mac
2. Visit Kies and click "Download for Mac OS" (or the equivalent in your language)
3. Follow the on-screen steps to install Kies on your Mac
4. Establish a connection between the Galaxy S5 LTE-A and Mac via USB
5. Drag the "Status" bar down on the smartphone and tap "Connected as a media device"
6. Mark the "Media device" check box
7. Launch Kies on the Mac and click the "Folder" icon associated with "External memory"
8. To open a file, double-click it
9. To remove an item, mark the check box next to it and click the "Trash can" icon > "OK"
10. After you're done, eject your smartphone and safely disconnect it from your Mac

Using the Smartphone:

1. While on the home screen, tap "Apps"
2. Launch "My Files" and swipe to "Local storage"
3. Tap "SD card"
4. To open a file / folder, tap it
5. To delete an item, tap "SD memory card" > "Menu" > "Select"
6. Mark the check boxes next to the items you wish to delete
7. Tap "Done" and press "OK"

File Transfer

Transfer Files from the SD Card to the Internal Memory:

1. Tap "Apps" while on the home screen
2. Launch "My Files" and swipe to "Local storage"
3. Tap "SD card" > "SD memory card"
4. Locate the files and folders you wish to transfer and mark their check boxes
5. Tap "Menu" and tap "Move" or "Copy"
6. Select "Drive storage" and go to the location where the files should be transferred
7. Tap "Move here" or "Paste here"

Transferring Files from the Internal Storage to the SD:

1. Launch the "My Files" app
2. Swipe to "Local storage" and tap "Device storage"
3. Locate the files you wish to copy / move to the SD card
4. Mark the files you wish to transfer and press "Menu"
5. Select "Move" or "Copy" and tap "SD memory card"
6. Navigate to the target location and tap "Paste here" or "Move here"

Change the Default Memory Storage for Apps

NOTE: Most pre-loaded applications save data on the phone's internal memory by default. For instance, photos captured with the camera will be stored on the internal storage. However, you can change the settings of these apps to use the SD card instead:

Change the Storage Settings for "Camera":

1. Open the "Camera" app
2. In the viewfinder, tap "Settings"
3. Tap "Storage" and select to use the "Memory card"

Change the Storage Settings for the "Voice Recorder:

1. Tap "Apps" from the home screen
2. Launch "Voice recorder" and tap "Settings"
3. Tap "Storage" and select "Memory card"

Change the Storage Settings for "Internet":

1. Launch the default "Internet" app
2. Tap "Menu" > "Settings"
3. Go to "Advanced" and tap "Content settings"
4. Tap "Default storage" and select "SD card"

Change the Storage Settings for DLNA (Nearby Devices):

1. Tap "Apps" and go to "Settings"
2. Scroll to "Connect and Share"
3. Tap "Nearby devices" and set the feature's switch to "ON"
4. Tap "Download to" and choose to use the "SD Card"
