WARNING! Master resetting your smartphone will result in the deletion of all personal data stored on the device, including downloaded content, images, custom ringtones, applications, contacts etc. All settings will be restored to factory values. Data stored on the SIM and SD cards will not be affected.

NOTE: Before proceeding with the factory reset, you may want to visit this link to learn how you can back up and restore data on the ZTE ZMAX.

Master Reset via the Settings Menu:

    1. While on the home screen, tap the "Apps" icon
    2. Tap "Settings" and swipe to "Personal"
    3. Tap "Backup & reset" and then tap "Factory data reset"
    4. In case your phone is protected by a lock screen, enter the PIN, Password or Pattern
    5. Tap "Erase everything" to confirm

    Master Reset Using Hardware Keys:

NOTE: In case your smartphone crashes, freezes or otherwise prevents you from applying the factory reset via the settings menu, then you can apply the reset via a combination of hardware keys. To do so:

    1. Turn off your smartphone
    2. Press and hold the "Volume Up" and "Power" buttons at the same time
    3. When the "ZTE" logo appears on-screen, release the keys
    4. Press "Volume down" to navigate to and highlight "wipe data / factory reset"
    5. Press "Power" to select the option
    6. Press "Volume down" to navigate to and highlight "Yes -- delete all user data"
    7. Press the "Power" key and wait for your smartphone to reboot

    Checking for Software Updates:

NOTE: Once you master reset your smartphone, all previous software updates will be lost as well. As such, it's highly recommended that you check for updates shortly after you master reset your device. To do so:

    1. Tap "Apps" while viewing one of the home screens
    2. Go to "Settings"
    3. Swipe to "System" and then tap "About phone"
    4. Tap "Check now" and if an update is available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply it
