WARNING! Master resetting your smartphone will return its settings to factory values, and all data stored on the internal memory will be deleted. This includes images, custom ringtones, contacts, downloaded content, apps etc. However, data stored on the SIM and SD cards will not be affected

Before master resetting your smartphone you might want to back up the data. Follow this link for a backup guide, and you can also visit this thread for instructions on restoring your files.

    Master Resetting via Settings Menu:

    1. Press "Menu" while viewing the home screen
    2. Tap "System settings"
    3. If necessary, press "Menu" and switch to list view
    4. Swipe to "Personal" and tap "Backup & Reset"
    5. Tap "Factory data reset" > "Reset phone"
    6. Review the warning message, and tap "Erase everything"
    7. Press "OK" to confirm and wait for your smartphone to reset. After the process is complete, your phone will restart

Master Resetting using Hardware Keys (Recovery):

NOTE: this method of master resetting your smartphone should be used in case the method above (via Settings) doesn't work. Your handset might prevent you from accessing settings, as it might freeze, crash etc. To reset your device using hardware keys:

    1. Power off your smartphone
    2. Press and hold "Power", "Volume Down" and "Home" at the same time
    3. At the "Factory Hard Reset" menu, release all hardware keys
    4. Press "Power" to confirm, and wait for your smartphone to reset and reboot

    Updating the Android OS:

NOTE: After master resetting your smartphone, all previous software updates will be lost. That being said, it's highly recommended that you check for updates after applying the reset. To do so:

    1. Ensure that your smartphone is connected to a Wi-Fi network
    2. Tap "Apps" while viewing the home screen and go to "Settings"
    3. Swipe to "System" and tap "About Phone"
    4. Tap "Update center" > "System updates"
    5. Press "Check now" and follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the available system updates
