WARNING! Master resetting the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will result in the deletion of all personal data stored on the internal memory. This includes custom ringtones, photos, contacts, applications, downloaded content etc. Data stored on the SD and SIM cards will not be affected.

NOTE: Before proceeding with the factory reset, you may want to back up your data. To learn how you can back up files on the Note 4, visit this thread. For a full guide on restoring data, visit this link.

Master Resetting Using the Settings Menu:

    1. While on the home screen, tap "Apps"
    2. Tap "Settings" and swipe to "User and Backup"
    3. Tap "Backup and reset"
    4. Optionally, mark or clear the check boxes associated with "Automatic restore" and "Back up my data"
    5. Tap "Factory data reset" > "Reset device"
    6. In case your smartphone is lock screen protected, enter your PIN, password or pattern and tap "Continue"
    7. Tap "Delete all" to confirm

Master Resetting using Hardware Keys (Recovery Menu):

NOTE: Use this method of factory reset in case the phone is unresponsive, it freezes, crashes or otherwise prevents you from applying the reset using the method above.

    1. Press and hold the "Volume Up", "Home" and "Power" buttons simultaneously
    2. After the phone vibrates, release the "Power" and "Home" buttons but continue pressing "Volume Up"
    3. At the "Android System Recovery" screen, release the "Volume Up" button as well
    4. In the recovery menu, press "Volume Down" to navigate to and highlight "wipe data / factory reset"
    5. Press the "Power" key to select the highlighted option
    6. Press "Volume down" to navigate to and highlight "Yes -- delete all user data"
    7. Press "Power" to start the master reset
    8. After the reset is complete, "Reboot system now" will be highlighted
    9. Press "Power" to reboot your device

    Update the Android OS:

NOTE: After you reset your smartphone, all the settings will be restored to factory values, and all previous software updates will be lost. As such, it's recommended that you check for updates shortly after you have applied the master reset. To do so:

    1. Ensure that the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is connected to a Wi-Fi network
    2. Access the phone's "Settings" menu
    3. Swipe to and tap "About device"
    4. Tap "Software updates"
    5. In case a new update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to download and apply it
