In the past, I have successfully been able to set custom ringtones. However, after trying to do another custom ringtone, I accidentally told the phone to use a specific source "Always". Is there anyway to reverse this? The ringtone I wish to use comes from another source...

FYI, if you are copying ringtones over from Google Drive, there is a known bug preventing you from seeing the new files. For now you have to copy via usb.

    Transferring Audio Files:

You can transfer music / audio files onto your Nexus 5 in order to use them as ringtones or notifications. To transfer audio files from a computer:

    1. Connect your Nexus 5 to your PC using the USB cable that came with your smartphone
    2. While on the home screen, slide the "Notifications" bar down
    3. Check if the USB connection is set to "Disk Drive". If it isn't, tap and select "Disk Drive"
    4. On your computer, once the "Removable Disk" pop-up appears, click "open folder to view files using Windows Explorer"
    5. In the Windows Explorer window, open the "Media" folder
    6. Double click either the "Ringtones", "Alarms" or "Audio/Notifications" folder (go under Audio and open Notifications folder)
    7. From your computer's storage, copy the music / audio files that you wish to transfer on your smartphone
    8. Paste these files in one of the aforementioned folders
    9. Once the transfer is complete, click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon located in the system tray
    10. Click "Safely Remove Mass Storage Device" and click "OK"
    11. You can now disconnect your smartphone from your computer
