Restore Contacts from an Account:

1. If necessary, sign in with the Samsung or Google account you used for the initial backup
2. Open the phone’s “Settings” menu
3. Tap “Accounts” under “User and Backup”
4. Select “Samsung” or “Google”, depending on the type of account used
5. Tap your “user name” or “email address” at the top
6. Make sure "Contacts” is selected, then tap “Menu” > “Sync now”

Restore Contacts from SD Card:

1. Make sure the SD card containing the backup is installed on the phone
2. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
3. Open “Settings”
4. Under “Device”, tap “Applications”
5. Tap “Contacts” > “Import / Export contacts”
6. Tap “Import” > “SD card”
7. Select to restore (import) a single, or multiple vCard files
8. Choose to restore the contacts on your “Google” account or “Device storage”

Restore Media Files

From the SD Card:

1. Open the apps drawer
2. Launch “My Files”
3. Tap “SD card” under “Local storage”
4. Tap “More” > “Edit”
5. Select the check boxes next to the media files you want to restore
6. Tap “More” > “Move” > “Device storage”
7. Navigate to the desired target folder, or tap “Create Folder”
8. Tap “Move here” when ready

From a Windows Computer:

1. Connect the Galaxy J1 to your PC via USB
2. On the home screen, drag the “Status” bar down and make sure “Media device (MTP)” is enabled
3. Open the File Explorer on the PC and locate the media files backed up on your HDD
4. Copy the files and transfer them on the phone storage, preferably in the “Media” folder
5. After the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage from the system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB

From a Mac Computer:

1. Connect the Galaxy J1 to your Mac via USB
2. From the notification area, make sure “Media device (MTP)” is turned on
3. Launch Kies on the Mac
4. Inside Kies, click the “Back up / restore” tab, and access “Restore”
5. Place a check mark next to “Music”, “Photo”, and other media file types you want to restore (or tap “Select all files”)
6. Click “Restore” and follow the on-screen steps
7. After the restore is done, drag the phone’s virtual drive from the desktop and into the “Trash can”
8. It’s now safe to disconnect the device from the USB cord
